Vehicle Detail

2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4. Auction reserve is $1500. Clear title in my name. I am second owner and purchased the car in January 2014 for my daughter to drive. At that time it had about 75,000 miles. Current mileage about 98,900. Daughter is graduating soon so selling this Jeep to get her an upgrade. She has used this car as a daily driver here in Atlanta for almost 2 years and it is a solid driver but in need of some basic maintenance as described below. This is a cash only sale. Body, wheels & tires: See pictures - underneath there are some small rust spots in a couple of places on the floorboards. There is no frame rust other than surface rust on unpainted areas. No frame rust or anything structural. Pictures also show body dings and dents in various places – particularly passenger side front fender. Someone attempted to steal the car and there is damage to the outside door lock cylinders but the outside lock on the driver side works. (Power locks work.) No broken glass. Front wipers work, rear wiper works. Headlights and turn signals fine. Passenger outside door handle cracked and needs replacing but works. Tires are needing replacement. Still have a little tread left but they are cheap tires and about worn out and they make noise going down the road. Factory rims have some curb scrapes but otherwise fine. Full size spare and rim included. Mechanical: Engine oil changed every 5,000-7,000 miles since I have owned it. Doesn’t smoke or use oil. Transmission and 4wd operate fine. No slippage. Many cars this old have substantial leaks at engine and transmission – this one doesn’t (see pics). Transmission oil changed 6 months ago to synthetic and never uses oil. Transfer case oil changed 6 months ago too. Radiator replaced in May 2014 and water pump replaced in Sept 2014 (have receipts for both) but since then there is a coolant leak developed somewhere causing me to have to add water about once a week—this needs to be fixed asap. Valve cover gasket replaced Sept 2014 (have receipt). Ignition coil and spark plugs replaces 15,000 miles ago (have receipt). Exhaust system works fine but poorly repaired…factory hangars came loose and makeshift wires are all that keep it from rattling badly. Catalytic convertor is fine and muffler replaced last summer. Aside from the bad tires the car was taken in to the mechanic recently because my daughter reported front end noise. The mechanic wrote out a list of what was needed as follows (I am quoting) sway bar and link bushings are deteriorated, slight play in ball joints, control arm bushings are deteriorated, play in track bar, play in tie rod ends, play in drag link and link end. No work was done, since the mechanic told me the car was safe to drive—I just didn’t want to spend the $. All four shock absorbers no doubt need replacing. The car drives fine going down the road and doesn’t pull or wander but if you hit a bump or go over railroad tracks you can tell it needs the maintenance described above to be done. Brakes are fine, don’t make noise or pull, but I have never done any work on them so I would plan to do a routine brake job in the next few months. Interior and accessories: The rear lift gate struts don’t hold up the tailgate all the way. Some oil got spilled in the rear cargo floor so that carpet needs to go. Otherwise the carpets in the front floorboard and rear seat area are fine but worn and tired. The front & rear seat upholstery is decent, but again—tired. No big nasty stains, etc - just worn. The power windows work fine, so does the cig lighter, CD player, AM/FM and heater. Air conditioner is all there but does not blow cold—it blew cold when I first purchased the car but I have never attempted to service it after it stopped cooling. Feel free to email any questions at all. Thanks for looking. On Dec-04-15 at 08:05:40 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE POSTED DEC. 4 AT 11am EASTERN TIME: IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PROMPTS YOU TO RETRACT YOUR BID --NO WORRIES. WHEN THE ORIGINAL LISTING WAS POSTED I HAD JUST TAKEN THE CAR FROM MY DAUGHTER. I HAVE NOW BEEN DRIVING THE CAR TO AND FROM WORK ALL WEEK AND HAVE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CODE INDICATES AN EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT RELATED ISSUE. PLEASE FACTOR THAT INTO YOUR BID. ALSO--I BECAME CONCERNED WITH THE SOURCE OF THE WHINING DESCRIBED AS TIRE-RELATED ABOVE. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE MECHANIC. FIRST HE DROVE IT. THEN HE PUT IT ON A LIFT AND HE SAID HE HAD VIBRATION SENSORS THAT HE HOOKED UP TO VARIOUS FRONT END, DIFFERENTIAL, MOTOR AND TRASMISSION COMPONENTS TO FIND THE SOURCE. HE CONFIRMED IT WAS THE TIRES. THE WHINING NOISE IS NOT OVERPOWERING BUT ITS VERY AUDIBLE. IT VARIES IN FREQUENCY IN DIRECT RELATION TO THE SPED OF THE CAR AND NOT THE ENGINE SPEED OR TRANSMISSION SPEED OR GEAR CHANGES. PUTTING THE CAR INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE DOES NOT AFFECT THE WHINE EITHER. THE MECHANIC WAS SURE, BUT TO ME IT STILL SOUNDS LIKE A BEARING SOMEWHERE. IF YOU ARE THE WINNING BIDDER--I WILL LET YOU DECIDE FOR YOURSELF. IF YOU DRIVE THE CAR THEN DECIDE YOU DON'T WANT TO COMPLETE THE DEAL--THAT'S FINE. OR--WE COULD POTENTIALLY NEGOTIATE A LITTLE LOWER PRICE ON SITE. SORRY FOR THE LATE INFO.
