Vehicle Detail
For sale: 1972 Chevy K10 4x4 from the western high desert of central Oregon. Lightly used by a couple of older owners and never mudded, wheeled, or hooned. Super clean truck in the best factory color, red, with the ultra rare U01 factory cab marker light option. Still has the build sheet behind the seat, truck was sold new in Lebanon and lived most of it's live near Prineville. I purchased the truck earlier this year from the second owner, who brought the truck from dry central Oregon to equally dry Montana. He had the engine rebuilt, and added a tasteful 2" lift to give the truck just the right stance. Lift could be very easily removed to put the truck back to stock. Great old truck to cruise to the Home Depot with the guys, or to the Steak and Shake or Cars N Coffee with the wife. I am an engineer by vocation but have a keen interest in vintage trucks and 4x4s, and own a large collection of same. Since I'm not Jay Leno, occasionally I have to sell one, and sometimes, it's a special rig. This truck is such a rig - it's the driest 67-72 Chevy truck I've seen in 20 years. I'll do try to limit the superlatives and do my best to describe it below: Exterior: Faded to a perfect patina, 99 percent rust free and straight. Paint is thin in several places. Typical dings and scratches. Will definitely need repaint if you want a shiny show truck. I think it's actually cooler as is. Truck was repainted once in the original red 25 years ago. Passenger side front fender was dinged and redone some years after that and doesn't match well. I checked the truck for corrosion(and I know where to look), the only minor blemishes I can see are a small spot under the battery tray where acid leaked, a bit of surface scale in each footwell area, and a small spot starting under passenger sill molding, (all shown in pics). Cab mounts, rockers, doors, around windshield, etc all look great. There is a lot of sealer in the channel above the doors but it's clear sealer, and I can't see any rust under there. Glass is good and windshield is new. Rear frame around window has some dings. Box and tailgate have typical dents from use. Chrome is good with a few dings but no pitting. I added all new side moldings from LMC and they look great. Interior: Original in good condition. 2nd owner replaced the dash pad and bezel and installed aftermarket carpet and steering wheel. Factory seat upholstery has a few tears under cover. Everything seems to work fine including lights, blinkers, heater, wipers, etc. Manual temp gauge has been added. Defrost lever on heater control is broken, but they are available and inexpensive. Aftermarket stereo sounds good. Original jack and handle still behind the seat. Nice, tight truck all around. Mechanical: Starts, runs and drives out great. Doesn't heat. 2nd owner had the engine rebuilt at about 75k miles when he got the truck. He asked the machine shop to rebuild the original motor, and the stamping on the pad is V0880TDR, which is correct for 1972 350 truck with automatic, so it appears to be the original motor. Motor really pulls strong with RV cam, headers and Performer intake and carb. Rebuilders painted motor blue, 2nd owner overpainted Chevy orange. Very healthy sounding exhaust system with turbo mufflers. Truck has typical old 4x4 leaks underneath, but nothing horrible. Tires are 32" Yokohama Geolanders on 15 x 8 ralley wheels, all in good condition. I have original wheels and can include them if desired. The lift is just a couple of blocks in back and two rear shackle mounts in front. Very easy to put back to stock if you like. I've been driving the truck a lot this summer and only issue I'm aware of is that gas gauge reads low. Previous owner replaced sending unit so it's the gauge, they are available and inexpensive. Also there is an aftermarket auxiliary tank that's been disconnected and is not in use. All around great truck to use as is or take it to the next level. Pricing/Misc: There was a very similar 72 that sold a couple weeks ago out of Washington state for over $12k. These trucks are VERY hard to find in this condition, but I need the space so my reserve is under $8k for quick sale. Remember, this is an old vehicle, and even though there are no major issues, stuff happens with old rigs. If you haven't fooled with vintage cars and trucks before, adjust your expectations accordingly. Title is clear and open in my name. I can store the truck outside for 30 days for free after the auction ends, after that there will be storage fees of $100 per month. Also, winning bidder should get insurance when payment is made since I will cancel mine at that time. Thanks and good luck!
