Vehicle Detail
A very rare Chevelle for sure, this 1966 Malibu Convertible spent the first 40 years of its life in Southern California, built at the Fremont California plant and sold new at Schonlaw Chevrolet in Hollywood, California. A special order car with the seldom seen combination of a 327-275 HP 4 Barrel V-8, automatic transmission, positraction and factory air conditioning. Other options include bucket seats with console floor shift, power top, power steering, AM radio, tinted glass, deluxe seat belts and simulated mat wheel covers. The matching number factory installed motor, suffix code EC is the California mandated version equipped with A.I.R. smog equipment, all intact on this car. This car is original factory paint with the exception of a refinished left door and spot in work behind all 4 tires. The original color is code TT Sandalwood Tan Metallic. The paint is getting very thin and has many stone chips and small scratches. There is no body damage except for some small dings and no previous collision repair repair of any kind detectable. Exterior trim Brightwork is fair condition. Body integrity is excellent with good fitting doors, hood and trunk. Trunk floor is excellent and has been previously refinished in original type trunk paint. The Malibu all vinyl bucket seat interior in Beige-Tan was redone a few years ago with new seat covers and carpet. Dash and door panels are original. Everything functions except AM radio which is not working. A new Convertible top in original color of white was installed in 2009. It remains in excellent condition. The original motor runs excellent and mechanicals on this car are all original with no modifications whatsoever. To the best of our knowledge and inspection the motor has never been apart but has just been well maintained. There are no visible oil leaks or smoke of any type. The tires on the car are a correct replacement narrow whitewall bias-ply on the original wheels with correct 66 issue factory mag wheel hubcaps. This car drives very well and has no known mechanical issues. This car spent its life mostly in Southern California where it was sold new but was bought and brought back East about ten years ago. Never having been thru Winters, the car is very solid and has no rust problemsanywhere. The underside is totally unrestored with some surface rust but again, unrestored, painted up or undercoated. It is just as it has evolved in its 50 year life. A Chevelle Convertible with this rare combination of powertrain and optional equipment is seldom ever seen in the condition of this car. Truly a "survivor" car with the exception of a partially replaced interior and retaining 100% of its born-with drivetrain, you will not find many like this. Includes with the car is a recently obtained NCRS shipping report documenting the original build and sale of the car in 1966 to California. We have priced this car realistically to sell to the buyer who recognized the rarity and desirability of this Chevelle Convertible. Odometer reads 11209 but true mileage is unknown.
