Vehicle Detail
This Triple White Karmann Super Beetle Convertible was part of the personal collection of a prominent auto dealer in Idaho. Always garaged and babied, the car was sold along with the rest of the collection after the gentleman passed away a few years ago. I bought the car from a Mercedes mechanic who had acquired it but decided he had too many toys. I've had the car over a year and it was exactly in the condition, both mechanically and cosmetically, that he described. It's a blast to drive and gets more thumbs up than any sports car I've ever owned. My first car was a 71 Standard beetle and this exact car and color were, to me, the dream I could never afford as a kid. So I fully restored my first 1979 Triple White Super Beetle convertible about 15 years ago, sold it awhile back, and my plan was to do it again with this one. Plans changed so I'm selling. The car's odometer had failed some years ago but the prior owners best estimate was that it has some 30K-40K miles based on overall wear; speedometer works PERFECTLY, only odometer doesn't work.) At some point, the stock engine was replaced with a new Porsche 914 aftermarket clone. The car drives perfectly, the transmission and clutch are smooth as silk, and everything, including the clock, works. As far as cosmetics, my original plan was to repaint, redo the interior, and replace the roof...but my friends all told me I was crazy to spend the money since paint looks great at 10 feet, the interior is mostly fine (drivers seat is, naturally, the most worn), and the roof is still waterproof if a bit tired. All agreed: "drive it, enjoy it, have fun with it but don't restore something in this good a shape" So that's what I dead and except for my long-delayed plan of installing aftermarket AC -- rainy summers in South Florida limit the ragtop option -- I've enjoyed the car exactly as it was sold to me. I have driven the car perhaps 7-800 miles since I've owned it and have done nothing to it except put in an inexpensive plastic floor console/cupholder and a plastic dashcover (original is cracked);put brand new battery in last week. I had the car detailed and after I saw it done correctly, I saw the wisdom in my friends advice...the car is great today as a daily driver and to be enjoyed as is. But for a serious collector looking to restore the last year of Super Beetle, it would be difficult to find a more pristine example at a reasonable price. As far as the aftermarket engine, I'd expected a lot more get up and go than what I've had in the past with factory engines on this model; either my memory is poor (highly likely) or the 914-spec powerplant just doesn't amp things up as much one would think. Regardless, the car has great get up and go and will happily cruise at 70 on the highway. Please see my feedback; I expect the same from the lucky buyer. No disappointments here, good luck bidding. On Sep-25-15 at 09:47:12 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Folks, I apologize for the confusion and still have no clue what happened, but as several of you notified me, a DUPLICATE listing for the Super Beetle appeared several days ago with this listing still active. I had just answered a question from a bidder and am sure I goofed somehow but, lo and behold, I had TWO auctions going for the same car at the same time! I cancelled the second one accidentally posted and to motivate you to PLEEEEEEAAAASSSEEEE buy this wonderful little car so I can quit second-guessing myself about selling it, I have dropped both the Buy Now and the Reserve prices on the auction. Thank you for looking, have a great weekend, and as this is the second time I've listed it -- well, THIRD if you count the accidental listing -- I'm going to take it as a divine mandate if she doesn't sell this time around and keep her as the weekend transport in Key Largo...so if you want the car, get busy!
