Vehicle Detail

billyvan Store History This Mercedes is a completely original, one-of-a-kind, vehicle with just 89,000 miles on the odometer. The car was never out of southern California until I bought it from the original owner two years ago and moved it to Texas. It has never seen snow or ice, and seldom been in the rain. It is as close to 'like new' condition as possible for a vehicle manufactured 36 years ago. Exterior The paint shines like it did on the showroom floor. There are no nicks, scratches, dings are any other flaws in the paint. The chrome bumpers and trim are unmarked and look new. The glass is perfect. The wheel covers also look new with the exception of a very small dent in the one on the right front wheel. It is too small to see in the photos and I'd had the car for a year before I noticed it. The only other flaw in the exterior is a small nick in the rubber on the rear bumper. The tires were replaced at 61,000 mi. and have a lot of tread remaining. Of course, the car is rust free! Interior The seat upholstery, carpet, dash, headliner, and wood trim are flawless. Everything works as it should with the exception that the dome light does not come on when the driver's side door is opened and the seat belt warning light and buzzer don't work. My mechanic said that a relay under the dash controls both items and was probably removed intentionally to silence the buzzer. I have not tried to replace the relay. The original owner bought a set of Cocomats when they bought the car in '78. These are a very common accessory for Mercedes automobiles and the original set is still in the car. The driver's side mat is showing wear, but, the others look great. The only thing I'm aware of that the new owner may want to do is replace the horsehair seat cushions for the two front seats. These have deteriorated over time; replacement foam cushions are available on the internet. Mechanical I have had the car inspected at two different private garages specializing in German cars and also the local Mercedes dealer. Everything they identified as potential issues have been corrected. To my knowledge the car needs nothing at this time, however, I do recommend potential buyers have the car inspected prior to bidding. I am happy to take the car to a buyer's chosen garage within 10 miles of 75248. Recent Repairs Since I bought the car I have had the following work done: 1)Replaced upper control arms and bushings, 2)Adjusted valves, 3)Replaced driveshaft flex joint and supports, 4)Replaced fuel primer pump and diesel injection hose, 5)Replaced shifter bushing, and 6)Replaced both rear door seals. Other The radiator hoses are original! When I took the car to the MB dealer I told them to replace these hoses, but, their mechanic said the they were in good condition and didn't recommend replacing them. I did purchase a set of hoses and keep these in the trunk, just in case. I have the service records dating back to 1978; they appear to be complete. The battery is 7 years old and has not given any problems, but, I will have it checked and replaced, if necessary, for the new owner. I am a member of the Mercedes Benz Club of America (MBCA) and have received many compliments on this car from other members. Last year I entered the car in a clean car show and it came in second; beaten only by a 2012 model; not too shabby for a 35 year old automobile! I know it's hard to buy an expensive item like an automobile without seeing it in person, so there are over 160 photographs below. I think the photos speak for themselves! Additionally, be sure and contact me if you have any questions or want pictures of something I missed.
