Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a very early Honda Z 50 mini trail. This particular example is often referred to by collectors as a "slant guard" mini trail. The muffler guard on these particular examples are mounted on an angle rather than horizontally which differentiates them from later models. This bike is also unique in that it has the early white grips and no headlights. The early examples also do not use a key. One other significant difference is that the fenders are painted silver rather than being chromed. And one more thing - the early bikes had no exhaust stinger. This particular bike is the earliest serial number I have seen! It is serial number Z50 A 103100 and the engine serial number is Z50 AE-100054. The prior owner had the local Honda dealer install new points so it runs fairly well, as you can hear in the video below: This bike is a great basis for a very valuable restoration. I am letting this one go as I have two other restorations under way and the price is adding up! This bike is original with the exception of the seat cover and probably the levers, as most of the web info shows white plastic levers on these rather than alloy. The tank on this bike will need to be repaired. It has a good share of dings and dents, and has a pinhole leak and section near the seam that leaks as well. I used a small amount of JB Weld so the bike can be ridden, but I did not have the tank restored as I wanted the potential buyer to see how original this bike is. As you can see the tank has the very early white over red paint scheme rather than the silver over red. The kickstart lever has bad splines. According to the previous owner he tacked the lever to the shaft and was conscious of retaining the good splines on the kickstart shaft. Because he wanted to just replace the lever - they were careful to ensure the lever would be easy to remove once a new lever was sourced. It also looks like one of the screws that holds the heat shield broke off, and will need to be drilled out. As this bike is a 1968 it is being sold AS IS. Please take a look at the pictures closely, and ask any questions before bidding. This is located in Missoula Montana - right near I-90 pretty convenient for a shipper to pick up. I will crate this for 150.00 if you want it crated. All shipping costs are up to the buyer. What you see is what you get on this auction. No title as they never came with a title in Montana. I will give you a bill of sale notarized if you would like. Don't miss this opportunity to acquire a significant mini trail. Good luck bidding!
