Vehicle Detail
1965 Mercury Colony Park Station Wagon, 390 FE V8 with automatic transmission. Selling with NO RESERVE to the highest bidder. This very rare and unique classic wagon rides on the same frame as a Ford Galaxie but with more glamorous styling and the soft ride of a Lincoln Continental. This Mercury wagon is in pretty good mechanical shape. The 390 motor fires right up hot or cold, idles perfectly and has plenty of power. It runs at the correct temperature and does not overheat. There seems to be no oil or coolant leaks. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, the 9 inch rear end is nice and quiet and I believe it has a POSI. There is an exhaust leak. The park pawl is broken so the parking brake is needed while parked which works very well. All of the brakes operate very well stopping the car nice and straight. It has later Ford 15 inch aluminum rims, the tires hold air and are usable locally with decent enough tread but are mismatched and I would recommend replacement before any long trips. Overall though it is in very good mechanical shape for its age. The body is pretty decent. The paint is original with a nice patina. There is some rust, most notably in the tailgate and where the 'Colony Park' decals are missing on the quarter panels. All glass is excellent, along with the chrome and lights. It still has its original Wisconsin license plate from '65. Overall it has a very nice look to it. The interior is really good. It is all original having never been re-trimmed. All 3 rows of seats are all excellent except for a few rips on the front seat base. The dash is in very good shape, there are no cracks to the dash pad, all gauges and switches work. The interior lights come on when the doors are opened as they should. The headliner is in really good shape with just a few small holes/rips. The carpet is pretty good and not rotten. The door panels are in excellent shape. The steering wheel is in excellent condition with no cracks. It comes with all of its original operators manuals and even the original tag on the wiper switch explaining how to use the wipers! It has the original Ford/Mercury rubber floor mats in pretty good shape. Overall an excellent original interior. Overall this is a nice complete and original wagon that runs and drives good with a very good interior. The body and paint need some work to make it a show car along with other minor details or you could just enjoy driving it as it is. It may be the motor. I'll try to fix this before the auction ends but no promises.
