1988 Ford Ranger 4x4 2.9L V6 5 speed Manual Transmission Cruise, A.C. (belt removed) Am/Fm Cassette radio This was my grandpa’s truck, and recently I bought it from the estate just to have a ‘ole beater pickup around I know he had a New Hydraulic Clutch installed 4 yrs ago He also installed a New red top Optima Battery with heated battery blanket fall of 2013 Tires and Shocks are 2 years old it had dual fuel tanks on it, however the front tank rusted through, so he had it removed, so now it has only one fuel tank. The Ranger ran fine last fall, however it sat all winter, and now it starts fine, but will not stay running, when it starts the RPM’s run up to 1500-2000 or so then dies right away I’ve tinkered with it, replaced the fuel pressure regulator, and the idle control valve and that hasn’t fixed the issue. It will run if you feather the gas pedal, but not well enough to be driven down the road. The motor has a tick in it also, sounds like noisy lifters to me, but I'm no mechanic...the truck will need to be trailered Basically I’m just tired of messing with it, and want it gone, someone I’m sure can fix it, I just want it gone.
