Vehicle Detail

This is a pretty, three-owner 1967 Jaguar 240. The last in the line of the Mark 1 and Mark 2 line, the rare 240 debuted in 1967 and by virtue of its VIN, it is the 61st Jaguar 240 produced. A RHD car imported to the United States in 1981, it is finished in Ascot Fawn with red Ambla upholstery. The car has the desirable full synchromesh four-speed overdrive transmission. The 240 has the unfortunate reputation for being underpowered, but despite the smaller displacement of the engine, the car is extremely quick thanks to the low gearing and the overdrive. Its current mileage is 53,262. Documents from the British DOT are available that verify the mileage in Great Britain at 22,474 in 1975 and 40,387 in 1981. This car has not run in 25 years and has been kept in a dry garage with occasional “sponge baths” by the current owner, a friend of mine for whom I am listing the car. The engine is free. As one would expect for a car that has not been used for a long time, the brake system and other systems containing rubber parts, as well as the cooling and fuel systems, will need refurbishment. The car is mostly original. There are two full sets of wire wheels -- the current set on the car are painted. The chrome wire wheels that are included are in poor condition with respect to the plating. The spare tire is a fifth chrome wire wheel. The knockoffs are from a Daimler, perhaps the result of an inspection requiring the removal of the eared spinners; one can only guess but the eared spinners are not with the car. There is a removal tool for the Daimler parts as well as a non-original jack. During my inspection of the car prior to this listing, the chassis and floor appear completely sound. The rockers are solid. The members supporting the front bumper appear to have been used as jacking points or possibly as hold-downs, and have been bent and exhibit some rust. There are two spots in the boot floor where the spare tire is stored that need work, as well as an area behind the right rear tire. All four doors received some work prior to the current ownership and contain some body putty near the sills. The bottom edges of the door frames are in various degrees of disrepair but all are repairable. The car is available for inspection in the Mendham/Chester New Jersey area. Please contact me with any questions you might have, for more pictures, or to arrange to see the car.Overseas buyers are welcome. Transportation to the Port of Newark and shipping are the responsibility of the buyer.
