Vehicle Detail

Ya know, I try to do everything right, a no reserve auction starting at a penny, running for 10 days, all the information I can possibly give, and I STILL get a non-paying no contact winning bidder. So, let's try this again, and if you do not have a positive feedback score of at least "10" I will cancel your bid, period. It's not right to jerk a seller like that. I don't care if the truck sells for $1000 (and yes, I did contact the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th highest winning bidders for a second chance offer, and only one bothered to get back with me at all, unbelievable. I'm not being greedy or holding out for more $$) this vehicle is for SALE, thus I am looking for a BUYER, not some tirekicking, timewasting jackass. Thanks for your consideration. For sale is my Japanese army truck aka 1985 Toyota Xtra Cab pickup 4x4 SR5, very good condition inside and out. This is the second year they offered the Xtra Cab configuration in this body style and the only year with both the solid front axle and fuel injection. This is another long-winded listing but I am passionate about these old Yotas and I want to communicate everything I can about this rig so the prospective buyer is fully informed as to what they are looking at along with the pictures. Please look over the entire listing and pics and if you still have questions please ask through ebay and I'll post all answers here, or you may call me. I'm betting "AutoCheck" will like this rig as I am 100% the second owner and it has no accident or title issues whatsoever. The rig was originally delivered and lived most of its life in the Spokane, Washington area in the Inland Pacific Northwest. When it was put up for sale by the original owner, I'm not ashamed to say it was love at first sight. After seeing pics of it, I negotiated a price over the phone, and sent a cashier's check, sight unseen and undriven. I arranged for shipping the rig for the 2.5 hour trip here in Montana and I've take care of her ever since. I have not been disappointed, these were awesome trucks 30 years ago when new and when they are taken care of they are awesome trucks 30 years later! I have a photocopy of the ORIGINAL 1985 title I will forward to the winning bidder! The awesome thing about this rig is it is about bone stock and always has been, never lifted, modified, chopped or "wheeled". The instant visual appeal lies in the stunning (to me) factory two tone medium blue and white ORIGINAL paint, with original decal on the tailgate and remnants of the original pinstripes. That's right, this rig has never been painted or touched up! Just shows what garaging and regular waxing can do in maintaining a quality original paint job! The original owner did a fine job maintaining the rig and we know when you do that the Toys just keep going. I have a receipt from the original owner dated August 2012 that shows a massive $1400 brake job, pads, rotors, seals, calipers, shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, etc. It passed a Washington State vehicle inspection including exhaust at 151000 miles and passed as late as 2009 (reports included). Also at 150,000 miles, the front crank seal was replaced. What we also know is that in the last 8 years this truck has only been driven about 30,000 miles. I've done very little with this truck because I haven't had to. Other than regular oil and filter changes, here's what I've done to the truck personally in the last couple of years: Replace the exhaust system with rebuilt front pipe and Y-pipe and new "turbo" muffler and tailpipeNew swaybar links New plugs and wires and air filter Install front differential pinion sealInstalled valve cover gasketReplaced transmission, transfer case, and front and rear differential oilNew battery terminal, battery cable end, and battery hold down metalNew shocks front and rearLine-X'd the bed, and added window tint (see below)Brand new battery just a few months ago The original 22RE fuel injected engine starts quickly at the turn of a key (no matter the temp or how long it has been sitting, excellent fueling on this motor) and runs very strong, instant throttle response, and gets great mileage. There are NO oil leaks whatsoever under the engine, tranny, transfer case, or differentials. I've always used premium non-ethanol fuel. The engine does use (burn) a bit of oil, (no smoke at all at startup or while running) and my plan was to eventually replace the motor with a new rebuilt one from Putney's Custom Machine aka 22reperformance(dot)com. The engine has needed a quart added between oil changes so the new owner should be aware of it. There is zero timing chain rattle or slap, the previous owner stated they took care of that at about 155,000 miles but I do not have a receipt for this. Overall the motor is in good shape for its mileage, in my experience when these 22RE motors have a lot of internal wear they have a telltale "horse hoof clopping" noise when hot at idle, this motor doesn't make any odd noises whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, the truck runs great, you read about people getting 300K from a 22RE but I have not had that kind of experience, so I just want to make sure you understand the truck's engine has 192K on it. The transmission and transfer case function flawlessly, the truck drives straight and stops true. The clutch engages well before the pedal is halfway off the floor. No slipping whatsoever. The frame and undercarriage were obsessively hand painted / undercoated by the original owner and the results (pics) speak for themselves. The underside of the vehicle is about as cherry as you can get for a 30 year old rig driven in the Pacific Northwest. There are a few areas of very light surface rust but little else. The worst of it is on the factory original springs that do creak and groan on occasion. If you study the wheel well pics you can see the frame rails and their nice condition. Since I've owned it, she has been garaged and I won't drive her with any rain or snow on the ground, period. I love the chrome SR5 wheels, the do have some corrosion on them, mostly in the seams, but still shine and have the original hub sleeves on the front wheels and axle hub caps on the rear wheels!! The interior is in nice shape, "SR5" stitched bucket seats and a pretty blue interior, the dash is perfect, the normally fragile pillar plastics are in great shape!! The headliner is also amazing for a 30 year old rig, no tears at all just a little wrinkled area at the top of the "B" pillars. The center console has been recovered, it was an OK job. One screw has fallen out of the console top and it's a bit rickety now, but an easy fix. Carpet has some stains mostly on the driver's floorboard, the passenger floorboard and xtra cab carpet area look really good. Here are the only non-original components of the truck that I know of: I believe this truck was equipped with the "auto-locking" front hubs, a known weak point, so they were replaced with manual Warn gold hubsThe tires, of course, but I bumped up the size to 30x9.5R-15, BFG Mud Terrain TA and they fit the factory rims and suspension just fine and have a ton of tread on themThe bed was showing signs of rust so I removed the excellent condition interior bed panels and had the bed and inside tailgate treated with COLOR MATCHING Line-X bed liner, over the rail, and then replaced the interior factory painted panels. I think the results were excellent, a rugged, good looking bed that is protected for years. Those chrome circular tiedowns. Ugh. They were there when I bought it.Window tint, 5% on the rear window and xtra cab and 30% on the driver and passenger windows. The rear bumper I'm not sure about. I've heard opinions both ways, but I'm guessing it is a replacement. Cruise Control. It look like an old dealer add-on and it doesn't work, nor do I think it would ever work again without replacement. All interior and exterior lights work as they should. The heater blows hot and all settings work. No A/C on this truck. The original complete jack and tool kit and the original owners manual with owner's supplemt is included as well as receipts for all work done since I've had her and many receipts from the original owner. Two non-original keys. Now, lets point out all known flaws with the rig. Keep in mind this is not a museum piece, so there is some wear and tear. I can tell you from my perspective none of the below has detracted from my enjoyment of the vehicle. From front to back:The windshield washer fluid bottle has a hole in the bottom of it and won't hold any fluid. It is brittle and needs to be replaced. The passenger side front bumper cap is not attached at its rearmost point (the bolt that has the plug over the hole), but it stays put; the front fender edge at the same location has a scrape. The passenger side wiper seal on the Birfield joint is weeping oil (very common). I use Trail Gear Trail Safe poly seals and problem solved. The windshield is original and should be replaced. It has several rock chips in it, but the real issue is a crack that runs vertical from top to bottom. It doesn't leak or make wind noise so I just never took care of it. The aforementioned cruise control does not work. The stalk mounted control is present and there is servo under the hood but the wiring is toast. The driver side vent window is missing the little push button to unlock the window. I have the window securely shut and have not messed with it at all. But if you try to open the window, the handle will come off when you rotate it. The driver's seat has a small hole in it. You have to press and pull on the fabric to expose it but I did take a pic (it won't show up in the auction pics). The lumbar support lever also came off, it is set to max support. The lever is in the glove box. (The hip support knob is intact and works great.)The driver's side seatbelt slider buckle lost a plastic loop (the piece is in the glovebox) so the seatbelt latch slides all the way to the bottom of the webbing when you remove it. The passenger seat lever that releases the seat back lost a lot of its plastic, it works fine though. The center console tray (that surrounds the tranny and 4WD shift levers) has a couple of cracks in it on the passenger side. The shift knob shift pattern indicator is AWOL, it was gone when I bought it. The knob itself is in great shape. Body rust - The cab/hood/front fenders are 99.9% rust free. There is one small bubble forming below the bottom right corner of the driver side xtra cab window, not sure what happened there as the rest of the cab is cherry. The outer bed panels/fenders and tailgate (see pic) has spots on it, in the panel seams, spot welds, and driver side wheel well. Please see all the pics. The worst of it is on the drivers side. I treated these areas with multiple coats of NAPA/Permatex rust killer spray and it halts the rust and turns it a black color, but it is a tough battle as they imported these trucks without the beds and formed the beds from cheap steel here in the good ol USA. The bed is still an easy 95% and looks great overall and is very straight but the prospective buyer deserves full disclosure. The passenger side corner of the rear bumper has been tweaked, see the tailgate closeup pic. Free and clear title in my name, which will be signed and notarized and express shipped to the winning bidder upon receipt of funds if the vehicle is being shipped or handed to the new owner if it is being picked up. This is a NO-RESERVE auction starting at a penny, no games or crazy opening bid price here. PLEASE DO NOT BID if you don't have the ability to pay, or can not gain the ability to pay by auctions end. The goal of this exercise is to sell the rig, not see what my rig is worth for my own personal gratification. Payment: I am NOT going to require a deposit via PayPal "as a show of faith". Your winning bid is your bond. I do expect a certified or cashier's check in US dollars in seven (7) calendar days from auction end. Of course cash works too.....No trades, please. This vehicle is NOT listed for sale locally, so I do not expect to end the auction early, but I reserve the right to do so for any reason. I have been selling online for a long time and have about 900 combined A+ feedbacks on Ebay, Gunbroker, and Auction Arms (now GunAuction). I am here to help you with your purchasing decision. Shipping: Buyer is responsible for insurance and all shipping costs. I have a flexible schedule and can meet a truck driver on short notice, I will make it as easy as I can for you. To answer a couple of questions in advance, first, from a reliability standpoint, I would have no problems driving this truck on reasonable trips around town or whatnot, or as a daily driver, but given the age and mileage of the engine I would be a bit leery of driving it across the country. I did take the rig on a 650 mile round trip a year ago and it did just fine. It has NEVER let me down. Second, the reason I'm selling is I am recently divorced....got to keep the rig but have bills to pay. It is another in a line of tough choices I have been making. Not getting rid of the rig for any other reason. Sorry if TMI but there is no other logical reason to sell such an attractive and collectible old truck!! Thus it is a fair question in the minds of the prospective buyer. Thanks for looking, I think the winning bidder will be very pleased with this nice, clean, good looking and well cared for STOCK rig with an average of just over 6400 miles a year on her! Love those old straight axle fuel injected '85 Yotas! Hope she goes to a good home!! On Mar-08-15 at 21:10:25 PDT, seller added the following information: The new ebay user who just registered today and has "0" feedbacks (of course, he just registered today) had his bid cancelled. I guess ya'll want to call my bluff. If you are under 10 feedbacks and you want to bid you may CALL me, tell me WHO you are, WHERE you are, and HOW I may reach you, and WHAT you plan to bid.
