1959 MERCEDES 300d Adenauer W189 Saloon - one of only 3077 made from August 1957 - March 1962 So in 1959 est only 659 of them were made that year based on 56 months of production Many of the pictures are of the car when it arrived from UTAH still covered in dust from the shop it sat in ! ALL PICTURES WERE TAKEN IN THE LAST 6 months I will upload more pictures in the next few days along with more information on the car milage shows 34772 but could be 134772 Introduced in August 1957, the 300d featured a longer wheelbase, fuel injection, and unique hardtop configuration transforming it into a pillarless phaeton. An additional 4 inches of wheelbase provided greater rear legroom, equaling that of the long wheelbase model Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Removable rear quarter lights allowed an unobstructed view in and out from the front vent window on back, much valued in the model's popular role as a "parade car". Sharing the pioneering 300SL sports car's Bosch mechanical direct injection with 300Sc, the 300d's engine produced 180 PS (130 kW; 180 hp) at 5500 rpm.[4] Automatic transmission was standard. Power brakes, power steering, and Artic-Kar air-conditioning were added as options.[4] A total of 3,077 300d models (priced at DM 27,000) was produced through March 1962, along with 65 special-order 300d-based Cabriolet Ds (DM 35,500). After some initial overlap with the smaller, more contemporary styled W112 chassied 300SE, the 300d was ultimately replaced as company flagship by the 600 pullman "Grand Mercedes".This is a solid UTAH car - not a rust bucket! - It was in a restoration shop for years in Salt Lake city and I purchased it along with many vintage Mercedes parts last year . It is a great car to restore . It ran and drove when parked in the shop and it was determined that it needed a new water pump ( included with sale ) and I was told the transmission was upgraded to a later Mercedes one . since it was sitting for years is should have all the fuel removed and lines -filter est cleaned up before firing it up again . The wood on the dash - the door panels and other trim had been removed and are included with the car . The car was repainted from original grey to strawberry color with base-coat clear-coat -- and for some reason the clear coat is peeling off in some places on the car where you will see the dull base-coat paint . The interior needs some work on the front seat. I am sure the brakes would need bleeding and new fluid as well . I will update the auction in the next few days . I am in the MERCEDES parts business and have been since 1988 - I have recycled over 177 190SL's and now am at 130 230sl-280sl's as well ! plus tons and tons of vintage parts for the mid to late 50's - 60's and early 70's as well We currently have a little over 5000 square feet of indoor space devoted to our OEM parts . We specialize in the 190sl and the 230sl 250 and 280sl as well . We also have lots and lots of Ponton 220 220s 220se 190 180 219 parts in stocks as well. We just sold off all of out 220se 111 coupes this last year (3 of them as well as a 300se coupe ) and still have a few parts specific to those cars in stock . We have owned 2 220s cabriolets , 1956 and 1959 , in the past and sold the pair off in the mid 90's for only $9000 !!!! We have 1 230sl in house we are parting out and have parted out over 120 of them alone and still have tons of Pagoda 113 parts in stock that we have not had a chance to even list as we are so busy supplying parts for the 190sl all over the World ! We just shipped over 500 LBS of 190sl parts that will be headed overseas to Europe to help with the restoration of over 65 190sl's in Poland . Some of the largest suppliers of quality 190sl used OEM parts in Europe have been getting parts from us since 1990 as well as many of the 190sl autos we have had in inventory have also been shipped to Europe with many going straight to Poland for ground up restorations . We have saved many of our customers thousands of dollars on their restorations by getting quality OEM used parts from us since 1988 . We currently have in stock for restoration 2 280sl's , 1 250sl and 1 230sl as well plus we have tons of parts to help with the restorations of these cars as well. NONE of them are advertised at this time as we do not have the time to do so . We also have many 300 adenauer parts in inventory as well as this car . Since I am in the parts business I am always in conflict with selling a car like this outright instead of taking it all apart for the parts as anyone who knows the value of the parts on this 300d would see that there are well over $30,000 worth of parts on it . Just the engine out of this car would command $8000 -$10,000 --so why am I not taking this apart ? Well I have so many MERCEDES and other cars I deal with that I do not have the time and this is really not a car that I usually deal in. In fact one of the best restoration shops of Adenauers is only 30 miles south of me ! This car just happened to be in a shop in Salt Lake city that I ended up buying the majority of all the vintage MERCEDEs 190sl 230sl etc parts in the shop as well as 3 other cars and last year the owner said he would load this 300d up with many of the remaining parts still in the shop including 15 radios and at least 60 lbs of factory Mercedes books and manuals as well so I could not pass up the deal . As with most of the cars when they first arrive I say I will restore them myself only to have reality bite to the fact that I never have time to do so and hardly have time to deal with the cars I own and drive as well !
