Vehicle Detail
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 1980 Up for auction today is a 1980 FJ45 Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-Up. Mileage is 103,990km or 64,616 original miles. Kind of hard to believe, right? Well for all of you unbelievers, get ready for the story! Like most Land Cruisers, this one comes with a unique past. Although it's rare for Cruiser Corps to sell a customer's vehicle for them, the story is just too cool to pass up. It includes helicopters, a Canadian gold mining site, a 15 year siesta, and a triumphant rescue. In 1980, the original owner purchased the truck to transport fuel into a remote work site in British Colombia, Canada. From 1980 to 1982, the '45 was put to good use as crews worked to clear the remote mountain range looking for gold. The owner's job as a bush pilot was to haul trees and large rock from the area. After a couple years of mining and clearing, officials decided to shut down the site, and just like that all access roads to and from the area were closed. The only transportation to the site was by helicopter. All of the equipment was abandoned, including the FJ45 pickup. The owner was devastated about leaving it there, and hoped to be able to remove it as soon as he had a helicopter large enough to do the job. In the meantime, the best solution was to store the truck in a Quonset hut on the property to protect it from the harsh weather and possible intruders. The truck was put on blocks and prepped for storage. Little did the owner know that the next 15 years would be spent flying all over Canada mining for gold and clearing land, with only occasional visits to make sure everything was okay in storage. It wasn't until 1997 that the owner finally got his hands on a helicopter large enough to rescue the truck from it's tomb. With permission from the helicopter company, he landed at the storage site with his crew. They put the wheels back on, checked all the fluids, and rolled it out of the hut, ready for it's big take off. With cameras on and straps secured it took off into the sky! Crossing over three mountain ranges, several glaciers, and challenging weather conditions, the owner was finally able to bring his baby home. Due to some unforeseen, tragic events, in 2011 the truck was put up for sale. After speaking with the owner, our customer decided to fly to Canada, purchase the truck, and drive it back to Oklahoma City. At the time of purchase the mileage was approximately 47,000 miles! During its time in Oklahoma, the truck passed hands only once to another Land Cruiser customer, who added some modifications. It was eventually purchased back by the same customer who brought it to Oklahoma. For those of you who are still skeptical about the mileage or story, here's where it gets really cool. This FJ45 was posted in Four Wheeler Magazine's 35th Special Anniversary March 1997 Edition! The issue documents the picture of the Land Cruiser being hoisted into the air. We also spoke to the original owner, confirming the story directly from him. he provided us with pictures of the vehicle being removed from the Quonset hut the day it was rescued. To the purchaser of the vehicle, we will provide all documents, contact information for the original owner, as well as the copy of the March 1997 magazine featuring the article, as seen in the attached photos. The current owner is no longer able to keep the truck, and is auctioning off this incredibly preserved piece of history. Work on the vehicle includes the following: - Replaced right fender and door (due to damages caused by cables when it was helicoptered out of storage)- Repaired bed (due to wet leaves)- Powder coated headache rack - Installed new front bumper, winch, off-road lighting, headliner, door panels, fire extinguisher, jack, spray in bed liner, telescoping mirrors, hood latches, and turn signal lenses- Tuned up and drained all fluids and full inspection of entire drive-train- Removed existing rear bumper and built a custom bumper- Replaced miscellaneous weatherstrip- Completely buffed out and touched up miscellaneous spots on the body There was right around $10,000 spent during a year long period. All documented receipts will be supplied to the new owner. Winning bidder will need to pay a PayPal deposit of a $1,000 within 24 hours of the sale. Although a reserve is required with this auction, it is quite low due to an urgency in selling the truck.
