Vehicle Detail

Up for your consideration is a very unique Corvette, both in its custom body and past decades of history. My father (Eric Rickman of Hot Rod Magazine fame, just Google his name and you will see) and I rescued it from a Disabled American Veterans thrift store. Needless to say it was in very sad shape and he being a avid Corvette lover convinced me to take it on as a father-son project. I know nothing of the cars passed prior to our acquisition other than it had been professionally custom bodied in the early 80s. I set about patching some of the fiberglass bodywork and replacing the rear clip as it had been crushed in transit to the thrift store due to the lack of functioning breaks. I hand rub the faded lacquer paint until it regained some of his former shine like you see in the photos. Please notice the rear fender flares blend into the door and are not just stick on like so many others. Don't get me wrong, the paint definitely shows its age with classic old school spider cracks and blemishes like only lacquer can achieve. Some would say it has a beautiful well-worn patina and others would say it needs to be stripped to the bare bones and re-painted. I say you're not buying a paint job, rather you are buying a unique Corvette with a equally unique history. The two of us went through it mechanically making it roadworthy once again. After we took it for its maiden run my dad stepped out of the car and declared it to be a dog. So we went rummaging around in a pile of parts and came up with a Edelbrock performance intake manifold, a Holly four barrel carburetor, which we rebuilt, a set of block hogger exhaust headers and a MSD ignition system he had saved off one of his cars. The wheels are original American Racing magnesium (not aluminum alloy) and the tires are new. All the instruments and radio are in good working order and the automatic door locks function perfectly. After the transformation we once again went on a test run and he proclaimed it to be a Corvette worthy of its heritage, it really does run beautifully. After he passed away in 2009 the engine has only been started periodically to keep it fresh and it has been driven 2 to 3 times a year. Don't hate me but I'm just not that big of a Corvette fan and I feel it should go to someone who will really appreciate its unique styling and heritage. It has a clear title and is currently in non-op status. I will be keeping the Rickman license plates as a remembrance of all the good times. There are no warranties implied and all shipping costs must be paid by the successful bidder. In addition a $1000 non refundable good faith deposit must be placed within two working days after the auction closes. "CAUTION" This car can no longer be registered in the state of California due to changes in the smog laws and that is precisely why it runs so well.
