Vehicle Detail
Needs restoration. This is the most solid 57 Bel Air 2 door hardtop that I have ever seen in the Indiana/Illinois area in my 40 years of looking at these cars. No rust in the usual places. There appears to be some hail damage as there are numerous small dents on the hood and roof. Nothing serious. The story is that it has been in storage since the late 70's and came from the Denver Colorado area. It was used as a parts car for a convertible project. It was missing the steering column, seats, inner fenders, gas tank, gas tank door and the right front fender. All of these parts except the gas cap door will come with the car. I have had the engine running as recently as 10/11/14. Since the steering column is not in the car I do not know the condition of the Powerglide automatic transmission. The floors and trunk have never been replaced or repaired and are in excellent condition. All of the body braces are in excellent condition. The lower corner of the left front fender has had a repair done to it. The 283 2 barrel engine has a date code of F510F which matches the body sequence number of J12798 (late May 1957) so I think that the car still has the original engine in it. I got it running this summer and it has no knocks but smokes a little out of the right exhaust pipe. The car has a remanufactured starter and a rebuilt carburetor. The generator and voltage regulator were checked and found to be in working condition. The radiator leaks and needs repair. The windshield is broken and will need to be replaced. The left door window is broken. There is some accident damage to the right door and right rear quarter and the outer right rocker panel. VIN VC57J230648, Matador red/India ivory paint code 819D, red vinyl/charcoal cloth interior code 676. It looks like someone got carried away with a cutting torch and cut a spot in the left front frame horn. Other than that the frame appears to be very good. There is a small rust hole near the front of the left side inner rocker panel. There are two small holes in front of the left rear tire in the wheel well. There appears to be a little filler underneath the car at the back by the tail pan. The lower left corner of the tail pan by the trunk lid has had some work done to it. The brakes do not work. The rims including the spare tire rim are correct 57 wheels. There is a 57 radio that goes with the car. The dome light works. The inner fenders that go with the car are new reproduction pieces. The front seat is a 57 Chevy seat in good condition. It will need to be reupholstered to match the 676 trim code. It has good upholstery on it (it was out of a Nomad). The seat springs and frame are good. The back seat is a 57 Chevy seat that will need to be reupholstered to match the 676 trim code. The car comes with a new gas tank, sending unit and straps. The odometer shows 18,668 so I assume that it is 118,668 miles. It has a clear Illinois title. I do not have time to work on the car and have other projects so I think that it is time to find this car a new home. E mail me with your questions. Thanks for looking. If you are the successful bidder I require a $1,000 non refundable deposit on PayPal within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The balance is due within 7 business days (Cashiers Check). I will store the car inside and would like it picked up within 30 days after the end of the auction. The car sells in "as is" condition. I have a set of 57 Power Pack heads, 4 barrel intake, Carter WCFB and four barrel air breather that are available and will sell separately from the car. On Oct-24-14 at 15:34:27 PDT, seller added the following information: It looks like we are under the money on this one. This Chevy will make someone a real nice restored car with all original floors, trunk, and body sheet metal. It has cleared the reserve and will sell. If you are looking for a solid 57 Chevy project car don't let this one get away from you.
