Vehicle Detail

This auction ends Saturday, Oct 25th shortly after 5pm, Mountain Time This is a sweetheart of a truck - a very original, nicely-optioned 1979 Ford F-350 Ranger Supercab 4x4 (this is the only year Ford produced a 1 ton 4x4 Supercab of this body style).  The truck has 4 wheel drive, power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise control, AND EVERYTHING WORKS (ice-cold A/C, working cruise control, etc).  The bed is a Morysville Camper Body that has been on the truck (along with a camper) since new - this is not a beat-up work truck with a standard utility bed.  The engine is new, the tires are new - this truck is ready for anything. General - I am the 2nd owner of this hard-to-find Ford, and have a clean Colorado title in my name.  The truck was purchased new here in Colorado Springs and has been used exclusively with a cabover camper for the last 35 years, accumulating 101,672 original miles.  I have numerous receipts and documentation for the truck, to include the original window sticker.  Whether you're a Ford fan or just an enthusiast of old trucks in general, you'll be able to appreciate this truck.  I am selling due to the inheritance of a Chevrolet truck that my father purchased new. Interior - The interior of this truck is clean, in very nice original condition, and has the "Ranger" trim package.  That is the original seat, it has never been recovered or repaired!  The rubber floor mat is original, as are the door panels, headliner, etc.  The factory AM/FM stereo has never been removed from the dash and plays fine, although the original speakers are showing their age.  The windows roll up and down easily, and the rear Supercab windows have the "flipper" option so they open as well.  The tilt steering column is tight, not sloppy from repeated adjustments.  Absolutely everything works properly…   all gauges work, the heater fan works on all speeds, and every light works (dome light, instrument cluster lights, heater control lights, radio light, gear indicator light, even the little labels for the headlight and wiper switches light up as they should).  The seat upholstery is in excellent condition, and there is seating and seat belts for 5 people. Exterior - The exterior of the truck is also in very nice original condition.  The Wimbledon white paint on the cab is original, smooth, and shiny.  The grill, bumpers, and trim pieces are all original and in rather nice shape for their age.  There is a fold-up step mounted to the rear bumper that is very handy.  The mirrors are genuine Ford accessory units.  The doors line up nicely and open and close easily - no sagging and no need to slam them.  The floors, rocker panels, cab corners, hood hinge area, etc are all completely rust free (other than the lightest of surface rust due to rock chips in the paint).  This is a solid old truck that has spent its life in dry Colorado and as such is not a rustbucket. Mechanical - This truck starts easily, runs smoothly, shifts well, and drives down the road nicely.  The engine is a new 400ci V8 that was replaced when the truck had 92k miles (so the new engine has less than 10k miles, receipt included).  It is strong, smooth, well-maintained, and runs cool (has the huge radiator with intact fan shroud, a bit hard to find on these trucks as most are missing).  The carburetor was professionally replaced with a brand new Holley less than 250 miles ago.  The truck has dual exhaust that exits behind each rear tire.  The transmission is a C6 automatic, it shifts nicely and has also been replaced (at 72k miles, receipt included).  The suspension is completely stock other than replacement shock absorbers, and includes both front and rear anti-sway bars.  The front axle is a heavy duty high-pinion Dana 60, and the rear axle has a factory limited slip differential.  Gear ratio is 4.10, and the truck is full-time 4wd (rare for a 1 ton 4x4, how it was ordered new as you can see on the window sticker).  The truck has dual fuel tanks, the rear filler is visible in the pictures and the front filler is inside the bed compartment.  The tires are BRAND NEW Firestones with less than 250 miles on them. Flaws - I have been told I’m often too critical, but here are the things I’d want to know if I were buying this truck.  Please don’t get the wrong impression from this paragraph - this is a very nice truck, as you can see from the photos below (especially considering it is 35 years old and nearly all original).  The pictures are current and accurate.  I simply don’t want the new owner to have any surprises or disappointments.  As mentioned above, the paint is original, and as such it has numerous scratches, dings, and rock chips, but overall is shiny and looks quite nice.  There is the lightest of hail damage on the hood (not the roof as it was protected by the camper).  The inside bottom seam of the doors have some bubbling paint and surface rust showing.  The bed does have a few areas of light surface rust and some touched-up paint spots, but there is no rust inside the compartments and nothing is rusted through anywhere.  The original dash pad has a few cracks, and there are 6 small holes on the passenger side of the dash from mounting cupholders.  The grill surround has a dent in each upper corner, and is otherwise straight.  The engine does leak some oil, I think from the rear main seal, probably due to lack of use - I would expect the leak to subside with regular driving.  The windshield has a repaired chip and a 6" crack on the far left side that has been stop-drilled to prevent it from spreading - all other glass is good.  These are all relatively minor or easily addressed issues, but I felt they should be disclosed up front. Overall - This truck is a great driver.  The steering is nice and tight, the truck doesn't wander down the road. The ride is pleasant. It doesn't squeak or rattle when driving over bumps. The doors open and close easily.  All of the lights work.  The exhaust is quiet. The truck runs, drives, and stops exactly like it should.  The power steering and power disc brakes make it easy for anyone to drive without having to be “old truck savvy”, and the operational air conditioning and cruise control ensure passenger comfort. Included - Included with the truck are the following items:  original owner's manual, folder full of receipts for various repairs and maintenance over the last 35 years (engine replacement, transmission replacement, etc), several sales brochures for accessories that were added (camper body, receiver hitch, brake controller, Ford mirrors, rear step, etc), a vintage 23 channel SSB CB radio that mounts in a quick-release bracket under the ashtray, 6 truck keys (including the original key identification tab and original aluminum key), 4 keys for the camper body locks, a spare tire, and a clean Colorado title (in my name). If you have any questions, please ask them prior to placing your bid. If you are local, or know someone who is, please consider coming to see the truck in person. Different things are important to different people, and while I have tried to describe all important aspects of the vehicle, it's impossible to cover every last detail. Terms of Sale Buyer will be responsible for either having the vehicle shipped, or picking it up in person. I will sell to US buyers only! I expect a $500 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours of the end of auction. Payment in full is due within 6 days of the end of auction, no exceptions. I will accept cash or cashier's check for balance of payment. If picking up the vehicle in person within the 6 days, I will require the balance due in cash at that time. Please only bid if you are willing to honor it! I know this doesn't need to be explained to most of you, but with all the new users something has to be said. Ebay is not a game, it costs money to list things here, please don't waste my time and money. Thank you!
