Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a Custom Restore 1979 Datsun 620 King Cab/Extended Cab pickup with only 35,151 miles on the odometer. This Barn find was restored due to rubber rot from sitting. This is a rare 1979 Datsun 620King Cab Deluxe Pickup A "Frame off Overhaul" was Beautifully & well done on this 1979 Datsun 620 KING CAB/Extended Cab pickup, with a 5speed manual shift, L20B engine, fresh paint & custom wheels.. This is a first & only year of the Datsun 620 with OEM front Disc Brakes & a 5 speed transmission stock. It has an Est. 25-30 mpg with the current Weber carburetor and the 5spd . This mini truck was painted in the summer of 2013, with a single stage, double coat of urethane paint, in Meteor Metallic grey, & 3 coats of clear. This Datsun King Cab pickup spent all of its life inland of southern Oregon. I purchased it in 2013 from a Guy in Medford Oregon, who bought from the Original owner, a disabled man, who only used it to drive around the VERY small town of Merlin Oregon(Google it.. it is SMALL). The mileage on the odometer is 035,151 miles and believed to be original (Not clocked over). The original owner purchased the truck new in 1979, drove it for a number of years, had it repainted Gold then got bored with it as he often did with vehicles, and let it sit after the alternator & rear U-joint went out. Many years later the second owner purchased it as a father son project. The guy I bought it from said he was told the engine was the original L20B and had not had any major repairs .The father & Son had it for a few months before the son lost interest. Upgrades at that time were a new alternator, Battery, and an after market Weber Carburetor (Better mpg). When I purchased the truck It had absolutely no rust other than some minor surface "Rust dust" I found "Underneath" of the pickup bed. You won’t find many 35 year old trucks in this condition! Noticing the Awesome rust and free condition of the truck, I was only going to paint it... Then decided it was worth a frame off reconditioning after I did an inspection of the engine, clutch & transmission. Compression Test as follows #1) 167 #2) 167 #3) 170 #4) 168 Oil psi 40 @ idle The engine & transmission were removed, then the pickup bed & the cab was removed from the frame. The Build Upon the removal of all necessary parts, I noticed many things, one being the lack of rust and ALL OEM parts including but not limited to tie rod ends, ball joints and U-jonts. I then took noticed of the odometer reading of 035,151 miles. I thought "Hmmmm" must be 135,000.... but then I separated the transmission from the engine to do a clutch inspection (Why go through all the above an not???) . Upon inspection of the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch plate.. I noticed all three had Factory assembly line paint over spray of the original engine color (Blue) on them. There is still even blue paint between the teeth on the starter ring gears and on the outside clutch disc itself ! ! ! The main signs of wear on the WHOLE truck, was deterioration of rubber components to the point of decomposition, or non existent all together, and the dash was heavily sun cracked. I proceeded to remove all of the interior, dash, Lights, handles, paneling, seat, ALL windows, doors, & hood, primed & painted the truck Meteor Metallic grey as stated above. The cab, inner fender wells & bed of the truck was then "Rubberized undercoated" with " Undercoat", with a professional rust stop / preventive product, even though there was no rust to speak of. The fender-well/cab seams were resealed with a 25 year silicone to prevent rust or fender shake. The inside off the pickup bed was coated and sealed with 3 layers of a Rubberized "Rust-Oleum" rust preventive Bed-liner coating intended for a full size truck box. The frame was then stripped to bare metal and "Rustoleum" Hammered black was used on the entire chassis, except drive line & Transmission cross-member which recieved "Rust-Oleum" Metallic Silver. All ball joints & Tie rod ends were inspected and proved to be OEM (Except Bottom ball joints were obviously new) and in EXCELLENT condition, but were replaced anyway. ALL U-joints on the drive line were replaced. The dust boots on the tie rod ends had rotted as well as the upper ball-joints from sitting in the guys garage. I replaced all of the above and upper ball joints just for good measures. After the above was completed, the truck was reassembled with ALL NEW window & door seals including window felt. Everything continues to work like it did when new, because "Most" of it is. Wiring harness was thoroughly cleaned & re-wrapped. Gas tank completely drained, cleaned and fresh fuel added. ALL door seals and window felt replaced "NEW" Dash was recapped glove box hinge replaced.. An extreme amount of energy and attention to detail and $$ was spent on making this truck Beautiful. I could go on and on and on! But instead I will simply list the the things that were replaced , but know that much, MUCH more was done. I am posting the worst pictures of the Truck so that there are NO surprises, only OOoos & ahhs... :) This only is a partial replacement parts purchase sheet. Meteor Metallic grey, (Urethane Paint), Rust-Oleum Primer, Rust-Oleum Rubber undercoat Rust-Oleum Bed liner Coat Rust-Oleum Hammered Black Automotive Clear Coat Fast Dry 2K Urethane Door seals 1/4 window seals Door glass weather felt/seals Windshield Glass Windshield seal windshield wiper shaft boots Windshield wipers Rear window seal Interior manual shifter boot Chrome Antenna Chrome Weber air filter kit Front-turn signal lens Brake Pedal pads Front disc brake pads Front tires Door bezel 620 dash cap Dash panel gauge bezel Ash tray Window tint Bench Row Truck Seat Cover Beck Arney U-joints x3 Tie rod end dust boots Steering wheel Seat belts License Plate Light Halogen sealed beam head lights x4 Gas door rubbers Rubber hood stops rear License plate Skull bezel w/Red eye lights Datsun Key chain fob Carpet Arm rests Glove Box hinge Window Crank handles oil oil filter fuel filter Gear lube Valve cover gasket Alternator (Previous owner) Horn relay Master Brake cylinder Master Clutch cylinder Tires Front new / Rear 3/4 All season mud & snow Sway Bar Bushings MevoTech Upper ball joints L&R Neoprene shock bushings Pro tach Tachometer The not-so-good points are: 1)"Occasional" drip of oil from the oil pan (Source unknown). 2)Clear coat still needs to be professionally flat blocked & buffed out. I am not an Auto-body and Paint specialist. There are some flaws (fingernail size dings mostly in tailgate) as shown in pictures, if you look close enough. These are pointed out in the pictures but are not easily visible in daylight. I had a heck of a time getting them on camera. The truck comes with about 1/2 Gallon of paint and more clear coat in the event you wish to fix the flaws, or someone runs into it with a shopping cart. 3)The headliner has a tear in it by the passengers rear window (Factory mess up? dunno?) and a very small 1/4" V tear above the drivers seat which I repaired, but is still visible if you look for it. It too is not visible to my camera & not noticeable unless pointed out. 4) There is was a tear in the black leather seat (shown in photos) that I repaired as well) The seat still looks nice, but I put a nice cover over it anyways. 5) Both fender Datsun Emblems are missing. The Original one for the front Grille is in the glove box (I think it looks better with out it). I Could not find decent OEM fender replacements and the re-manufactured ones look like crap. 6) The under the Glove box tray, is available and in good condition if you want it... but it is not installed. More detailed photos are available upon request. I have progressive pictures of every step of this build. You will have to see in person to see just how much attention to detail and hours spent making it as close to "Perfect" and reliable vehicle as I am able. This Truck is "Turn Key- cold start" vehicle, and with it comes with a lowering kit. "I would not be embarrassed to take it to a show"or Let my nephew drive it daily. I have done my best to accurately and honestly describe this Classic Datsun "King cab" Deluxe & have posted pictures of what I consider to be the "Not so good" areas - The rest Immaculate! It worked before I put the new/used OEM seatbelts in... o_O? But the anoying buzzer works great! But yes everything else woks as it should. Something I forgot in the description is that and it does not have rear mud flaps. I could not find OEM replacements and after maket ones are just yucky. and I can't find the dome light cover... I did have it.... somewhere.... The stereo is a Kenwood with 2 6in. 2-way front speakers and Two removable small subwoofer 3 way boxxes in the back with enough wire to set in the back of the truck for easy listening while fishing/camping etc. I visualized this truck as a low mpg toyhauler for myself. Unfortunately, I Burnned up my credit card building it.
