Vehicle Detail
I bought this car about 10 years ago with intentions of restoring. I have a 67 as well in need of restoration and my wife is getting cranky because all they do is sit and I never have the money or time to work on them. I have come to realize but wouldn't admit to her she is right. I need to sell one to raise some cash so I can start working on the other while I am still young enough to enjoy it. This Chevelle came from Ohio about 10 years ago. I believe it to be a true SS or would have never bought it. It cost just as much to restore a Malibu and when done a Malibu is worth about 25% less so I would never waste my time on a known Malibu. It has the 3/8" SS fuel inlet line. The front disc brakes, The big block steering shaft. Also is a Baltimore built car with the L on the trim tag many belive to be the Code for the SS option. I never took the car apart to see if there is a build sheet hiding somewhere. I sanded a few spots. Factory color and trim tag confirm it was factory Cortez silver. They put putty on a small dent on drivers door and quarter but I think it is solid under the putty and not that big of a dent. Looks like about 1/2" of putty smeared right over the paint as seen in the pic. Could be fixed proper with out replacement of door or Quarter. Door bottom seams can be seen in pics and not swelled apart. I felt the Quarters were good enough to save rather than complete replacements. Rockers look nice. Front fender bottoms have some rust going on, see bubbles in pics. The trim code shows Black Bucket seats which is correct. The guy I bought it from showed me in his Chevelle book that the 756* was the SS396 trim package with Black bucket seats. I never was able to find another book that said that. He used the car as a donor for another one he was fixing that was a Malibu. He took the SS Gauges out. The Console out, the rosewood steering wheel and the 4 speed. I put in regular gauges, a 400 automatic and a buick steering wheel. I was told it ran when I bought it. I did get it running 10 years ago and drove it but it smoked like crazy so I didn't make it into a fix as I drive project like intended.. No knocks, just smoked too bad to drive without a rebuild. The reason he took the SS parts off and fixed his Malibu is the Back window. This car had a Vinyl top which caused rear window leaks. The rear window and trunk floor is rusted. He said he was unable to fix the rear window rust so he fixed the Malibu. I never got as far as deciding if I would weld in patches or order a new rear window panel. He took the motor too and he didn't tell me because it is now a 402 Monte Carlo engine The right rear floor pan had one hole with a high school shop class patch that needs proper repair but looks ok other than that. Frame doesn't seem to be getting thin.Tires are cracked and dried out. One will not hold air for long. I could put on another tire so they all hold air. I can help load and do have room inside to hold for a month or two if needed. I do need payment with in 10 days after purchase. I have a new full trunk floor pan I will include if price hits $7500 Thanks for looking.
