Vehicle Detail

NO RESERVE! I inherited this 1974 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible from its original owner. It is an easy restoration project for the right buyer. The car was bought new at Bob Spreen Cadillac in the Los Angeles suburb of Downey and still has the original dealer license plate frame and owner's manual. It spent almost its entire life here in sunny Palm Springs, California. The car has only travelled 78,000 original miles. It was parked in the carport at the owner's house since 1994. Started occasionally but not driven. Just prior to parking the car, the owner had it repainted in the original Cranberry Firemist paint, a new top was installed, the transmission was completely rebuilt and all the brakes were done. Then the car was parked, for 20 years. I towed the car home, had four brand new tires installed, drained and replaced the engine oil and coolant, replaced the fuel hoses at the gas tank and the engine, installed a new fuel pump and spark plugs, overhauled the carburetor, put in a brand new battery and the car started right up. No smoke, no noise, just idled smoothly and quietly. I have only driven the car approximately 25 miles, the brakes work fine, it shifts well, goes down the road straight and smooth with no rattles or squeaks, the exhaust system is quiet as well. The convertible top still shows very well with absolutely no rips or tears but, due to the hot climate here, the rear window has come loose. There is not a dent on the body anywhere, the paint still shines very nicely but there is some sun fading on the driver's door. The warm climate preserved the car very well but still took its toll in other ways. The rubber bumper extension pieces on the front and rear have disintegrated, the original seat leather has become hard and should be replaced, the upper door panel vinyl has cracked. I decided to get quotes for the necessary repairs. A local upholstery guy came and looked at the car, gave me a quote of $1,500 to reupholster the seats, replace the vinyl on the door panels, and reinstall the rear window, which I thought was very fair. On his recommendation I have not attempted to raise or lower the power top until he, (or someone else) has had an opportunity to check and lubricate all the top mechanism. The bumper extension panels are readily available right here on eBay. The 4 front pieces are average about $200, the 5 rear pieces average about $400. You may be able to find them for less. This Eldorado came with the following standard equipment: 500 Cubic inch V-8 engine, Turbohydramatic transmission, Front wheel drive, Power steering, Power disc brakes, Power windows, Intermittent windshield wipers, Leather upholstery, Power top. It also had the following optional equipment: Climate controlled air conditioning, Cruise control, Twilight sentinel, Lamp monitors, Remote right mirror, Special Firemist metallic paint (Code 99 Cranberry Firemist), AM/FM Stereo radio with integrated 8 track tape player and power antenna, Power door locks, 6 way power seats (driver's side and passenger), Tilt and telescopic steering wheel and Remote trunk release. Although the car has been parked for 20 years and it certainly needs some tender loving care, many of the options still work fine. All exterior lights work, power antenna goes up and down, front fender light monitors all work, radio is finicky but works intermittently, wipers work, power trunk operates fine, A/C blower motor works, power windows go up and down, spare tire, bumper jack and wheel wrench are all in place. Car is available for inspection any time during auction's run. It will sell to the highest bidder. I will not end the auction early. Questions will be answered promptly. If you need to get permission from your wife/girlfriend/mother to buy a vintage car, please do so before bidding. In the interest of common sense, I recommend the Buyer have the car transported to its new home by a professional carrier unless the Buyer lives right here in Palm Springs. Remember, it's been parked for 20 years. I can help with your transporter/tow company to make the car available for pick up. I would like a $500 deposit by PayPal within 48 hours of auction's end. Balance can be paid in cash at time of pick up. If you need to make other arrangements please contact me before auction ends.On Oct-09-14 at 19:41:09 PDT, seller added the following information: Dash board is very nice with no cracks. All chrome trim and emblems are in place. On Oct-11-14 at 15:34:44 PDT, seller added the following information: Title is clear and clean. Currently in non-op status. There are no back fees due.
