Vehicle Detail

For sale, original Montana high desert survivor 64 International 1200 Travelette pickup with just the right barn find patina that everyone is looking for. This was originally a University of Montana service truck, or so I am told. After years of putting around campus, the family I bought it from purchased it at a State surplus auction with very low miles in the late 70s. They ran it a few years and parked it in 1982. Very special truck with big V8/posi rear, bright School Bus Yellow paint and factory build sheet / line set ticket. Very original, still has the original exhaust and 50 year-old radiator hoses and clamps! Good running and driving ready-to-use as is truck right now for trips to Home Depot and taking the wife to the Steak and Shake, or a great candidate for a full restoration. Imagine the impact this truck would have at Cars and Coffee! I'll do my best to describe it below: Exterior: Pretty straight, all original as far as I can tell and wearing some great patina. There are some obvious large dents in box and small dent in grille. No serious rust or rot issues, just minor rust as shown in pics. This is dry, arid country and we just don't see major rust issues here, there's just no moisture. Will post link to underside pics, while there is minor surface rust in footwell area from window seal leaking (the kind you just POR-15 and forget), it is SUPER CLEAN. You can still see the paint on chassis and underbody. The frame, rockers, cab mounts, cab corners, and floors all appear to be in great condition. Structurally truck is sound and nothing is concealed with undercoat - it's all there for you to see. Front bumper bent as shown. Plenty of surface rust in box from cardboard stored there and holding moisture. Tailgate opens and closes perfectly! Chrome emblems, door handles, grille etc are in decent driver condition but far from show quality. Glass is good with only one large chip in windshield, small crack at bottom of one side glass(not noticeable) and a couple of very small chips in rear glass. Just an honest original truck. Interior: Original and presentable to use as is or restore for show duty. Super tight truck with no squeaks or rattles. All doors close like a bank vault! I've owned many of these trucks, including a 20k mile original, and this is by far the tightest of them all. Original dash and door panels excellent, seat upholstery is original and showing sun fading a few tears. Original floor mats in good condition. Headliner needs to be replaced. Original steering wheel has a few cracks but shows well. Everything seems to work except fuel gauge and windshield wipers - even heater blower and horn work. Ready to use as and enjoy as is. Mechanical: Odometer shows 43k, and per previous owners, speedometer quit shorty before it was parked. Odometer non-op now. It doesn't have many more miles than shown, but will be sold as mileage exempt (other). Original 304 V8, 4 speed, and posi (positraction works great) rear still giving great service. I took the truck to a professional mechanic for full service, tune up and carb rebuild. Starts, runs, drives out well. No major issues - engine is smooth as a swiss watch and trans shifts well. Oil pressure is good, no noticeable smoke or leaks. Tires hold air but are old and crusty and need replaced. Mechanic flushed fuel tank and rebuilt complete carb and replaced fuel pump diaphragm and bled all brakes. Driver front wheel brake cylinder seeps, might need wheel cylinder kit there. Brakes and clutch work fine - even emergency brake. Other than tires, and maybe hoses and belts, ready to use as is. I've put some miles on and from what I can tell it's good to go. Front end feels fine, doesn't heat. Overall good strong tight truck! Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. This era Travelette is very hard to find, especially clean and straight and in the best factory color of that year (School Bus Yellow). These trucks book a ton, and restored examples bring strong money, but the very reasonable reserve on this truck under $3k for quick sale. I looked for comps on Ebay, and saw one in similar condition for a pie-in-the-sky price of $17,995. Another was listed at $4995 with the roof all rusted completely through. Transport is readily available and probably cheaper than fixing heavy rust on a Midwest or East Coast truck. Title is clear and in my name. GOOD LUCK! Keep in mind that with all cars and trucks, THEY LOOK BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN PERSON. Expect to have the truck shipped. It runs fine, but it' hasn't been completely gone through. Probably unreasonable to expect to fly out here and drive it long distance home. THANK YOU**************On Oct-03-14 at 19:36:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Here's the link to additional pics including underside. Frame, rockers, floors, cab mounts, etc look great. Surface rust at back of box behind bumper as shown. Heavy surface rust in footwell area from window seal leaking - looks worse than it is and some of what you see is underlayment. From underneath the truck I can't see any rust thru. Also under the truck some areas have a greenish tint to the paint - not sure if it's primer or sealer but it appears original and factory. Truck is extremely original and appears to have original exhaust and shocks. You can still see factory applied paint to frame, rear axle and fuel tank. Also, lower bolt of gas pedal at floor was corroded and it broke off on me today. If I think of anything else will update. Reserve is met with next bid and truck will sell. GOOD LUCK! http://s261.photobucket.com/user/burgundyamx/library/Travelette?sort=3&page=1
