Vehicle Detail
This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history. This 1973 Mercedes Benz 280 was owned by Margaret Truman, the only daughter of President Harry Truman. Margaret was also a famous author of thirteen Capitol Crime mysteries as well as non fiction. The car was purchased by the New York Times as shown on the registration, as a gift for Margaret when her husband Cliff Daniel became the Washington Bureau Chief for the Times. This unique car has the famous M-110 6 cylinder 2.8 liter double overhead cam engine. Rust free body. Front and rear disc brakes. Verified low mileage (32k), complete owner history. Car was in Washington DC until late 1970's and then garaged and used in Arizona for years while the owner visited her winter home. Documentation shows this car received Ziebart coating to a solid rust free undercarriage. In addition, there are many receipts available to show the care given. The car runs beautifully with no mechanical issues and is a great conversation piece at car shows. Garaged all its life, never driven in salt or snow and it shows. Interior close to new, no cracked dash, rear seat looks like never been used. Front seats have custom made shearing covers. This is a 41 year old car and is being sold as is with no warranty. The pictures do not do the car justice. If you need any additional information, please feel free to call me, James at 215-970-4820. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Happy bidding!
