Vehicle Detail

You're looking at a "64 Oldsmobile Starfire Coupe that has been in the same family from new until early 2014.  It was ordered new at Wells Oldsmobile in South Orange, NJ by Mr. Al Reiss of West Orange, NJ.  Mr. Reiss drove the car sparingly and kept it garaged.  There is a diary of all maintenance done to the car from new until the 1980's, and many oil change stickers in the door jambs showing chronology and mileage.  The first owner stopped driving it regularly in the early 1980's.  Oil change stickers show that the car had 54,700 miles in 1982. The first owner owned the car until his passing in the early 1990's when it was passed to his grandson who preserved the car and drove it only occasionally.  I purchased it from his in early 2014.  Finding them like this is just becoming a rare occurance. The car is well equipped with the 394V8 with 4 barrel carb, Automatic Transmission, leather trimmed bucket seats (driver's side is power), power steering, power brakes, in dash factory AC (BLOWS COLD), power windows, tinted glass, cornering lights, tachometer mounted on the console and wire spinner hubcaps. When the grandson inherited the car in the early 1990's, he let it sit primarily, driving it several times a year.  Although I have no paperwork to show it, he had the gas tank removed and cleaned out, the carb rebuilt, a new master cylinder and fuel pump installed.  After my purchase of the car, I put a set of radial tires on it, changed the rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders, charged the AC and thoroughly cleaned the car.  The car meets the road very nicely.  I have put approximately 350 miles on the car since my purchase and its been fun.  AC blows nice and cold, idles, stops, starts and accelerates the way its supposed to.  Radio, wipers, lights, tach, speedometer, etc all work properly.  Power windows and seat all work fine. When the AC is on, the cold air comes out of both the dash vents and the heater vent down low, so there's a flapper valve in there that's not opening or closing all the way.  Still cools the car nicely however. The car appears to never have had any rust.  Underneath the floors are excellent. It did have one paint job which is documented in the original owners "diary" of the car in 1976.  The paint job looks good from 10 feet, upon close inspection on can see that its not a show quality paint job and has some chips and scratches in it. Other than the paint, the car is all cosmetically original.  It appears that there is an area on the trunklid near the lock cylinder that had some bodywork, as well as an area on the right rear quarter.  This is documented in the "diary" as well, and many years later the paint is showing some evidence of crows footing in those areas.  Not eyesores however. Chrome is very nice, interior is in very nice shape down to the original carpeting. This is the type of car I think just about anyone will leave the way it is and call it a cool survivor with an interesting history that is documented.  If one wanted to really make the car a show car, a strip and repaint would be done.  But I don't think that will happen. I have placed the reserve very reasonably, it will likely sell in my opinion.> I am an experienced car collector with a love for the hobby, especially a love for preserved, survivor type cars.  I have several of them and have been collecting for a long time.  My description is the way the car is.  You can feel free to come see it here in Northern New Jersey prior to auction's end, and call me if you have questions 201-406-4423. Selling a collector car is only a pleasant experience when the buyer and seller walk away happy, and that's my goal in this case. If the car is not sold, I will bring it to the car corral at the Fall Hershey AACA show in Hershey, PA October 10-13, space # A70.  Therefore I require a $750 deposit within 24 hours after auction's end via Paypal, and the balance is due within 5 days after the end of the auction via cash in person or wire transfer.  I can keep the car inside for 21 days after auction's end for the buyer the pick it up or have a shipper pick it up. I reserve the right to end the auction early, and the car is offered on an as is where is basis with no warranties or guarantees, express, written or implied. Now stay tuned for the 85 or so photos I have posted here........
