Vehicle Detail

Car drives EXCELLENT! The car has the new and aftermarket goods to make it drive as it was in 1972 or better. I have used or NOS panels to address nearly all of the body issues. List of recent goodies From IPD: Sway bars front and rear 8mm silicone plug wires Bosch blue coil Cap, rotor, etc. Finned alloy valve cover Springs (non-lowering) 4>1 Exhaust header IPD (Isky) Street cam, solid lifter set and steel drive gear From elsewhere: Bilstein fronts Koni rears Converted to GM Alternator with internal regulator Kenne Bell Roller Rocker set New Fuel pump Hella H4s New Battery Dash is crack-free. A rather jagged hole is cut for a single DIN radio in front of the passenger. I expect a radio would mask the sawzall job. I've never tried to fit one to verify. Speedometer, odometer, fuel and coolant gauges all work. The dashlights are currently not working - the only thing that sticks in my mind to recommend against driving this car any great distance. Steering wheel is from a newer "GT" (and says so). This wheel fits 'awkwardly' in the 145; it does not cancel the turn signals and sits much closer to the driver than an original steering wheel, but I've grown to like it. Steering system (manual box) is tight and, with the smaller wheel, fast. I do not have another wheel to send with the car. Manual transmission is the 4 speed + overdrive. Being a 1972, it has the short shift lever. All the gears select easily with a pleasing "snick" and there is no sign of syncro weakening/gear clash. Overdrive (via the column mounted stalk) works promptly and firmly. I've run 15", 16" and 17" modern Volvo alloys in the past, but I'll be keeping all those. On the skinny original wheels and old tires, its true handling is evident; balanced and you can steer with the right foot. Body issues: The left rear quarter is wrinkled behind the wheel and below the beltline. The right side was swiped just before I got it. There is no structural damage, and the doors work just fine. However, both passenger side doors and the passenger front fender are rather dented. I have the front and rear doors from a 164 (in the car's original dark green) and have installed the front door. I still have the original front door. The driver's side window regulator is broken (window goes down and will stay up), but I have a spare from that same 164 to be installed. I have two 142S front fenders (with badges), but they do not have the U.S. side-marker light cutouts. To fit these fenders, one would have to cut the holes or decide to run with just the wraparound marker light setup that was good enough for ROW. The right rear side marker light is an amber lens that is supposed to be fitted at the front. I have left and right sill repair panels and the right-rear wheel arch repair panel. These are NOS and are marked with small stickers "Made in Denmark." The part numbers or other information from the larger stickers is unreadable to my eyes. The removed front bumper will come with the car, but does have a slight bend in it. The floor carpet has been removed. I have it in storage somewhere. The removed carpet makes it easy to observe the solid floor. The cargo area carpet is torn. The headliner has a few small problems. The right-rear cargo wall trim is damaged, but present. Car starts faithfully regardless of weather. When cold, the idle is a bit lumpy but smooths out quickly. If you're a carb fan, I'll not be changing your mind, but the D-Jet fuel injection system has worked flawlessly and I wouldn't change it. It does not burn or leak any oil, and that reminds me that it's silly I haven't cleaned the engine. Pulls strong with a wide power band. It's no powerhouse, but it's more than capable of suprising some folks and keeping a grin on your face. Title is clear and has this 'Additional Vehicle Detail': "Titled in WI as: Street Modified" This was to have been my rallycross car, but my local club hasn't hosted one of those events since I bought the car in 2008. I've only ever driven it on pavement. I have too many toys, not enough room, and am barely willing to part with this one. Buying a car can be emotional and I cannot make judgements on your behalf. I have bought cars from a distance over the internet and have been pleased, and have also been disappointed. I highly recommend viewing in person and driving before purchase. I have described the car honestly and will answer all questions in the same manner. Further pictures available on request (please allow 24 hours for me to respond). I will help deliver to a few hundred mile radius of southern WI, if that's your preference. I will do so at a fee that covers my expenses. Please contact me prior to bidding to discuss. I have no experience using a third-party automotive shipper, but will be willing to work with you and the shipper if you so choose.
