Vehicle Detail

I bought this car in May 2000 from a private party in Helena, Montana. It was originally licensed new in Helena and remained there. When I drove it to my home in Anaconda, Montana it operated very nice, just as it was supposed to. I have not found the time to restore it and most likely will not in the future as I have other cars that have been waiting ‘their turn’ for over 40 years. The mechanical operation is good with the following qualification: All of the rubber hoses, boots, fuel lines and etc. should be replaced prior to driving. They are very old now and well past a useful and safe life. The odometer reading is 3,925 so it has ‘turned over’ once. Car has been thoroughly steam cleaned and purposely left uncoated so that you can see exactly what you are getting. The only undercoat is the remains of the thin original coat. It hides nothing from view. The body piece under the rear doors should be replaced. The heavy support sill that is under the body piece appears to be okay. Both front fenders have a small circle of rust-out just behind the headlight. This was caused by moisture getting between the fender and light-mount reinforcement plate---easy to repair. The right side of the hardtop has a 6 in. crack in the fiberglass and the gutter rail needs straightening. A good restoration on these cars will always include the removal of the gutter rails (drill out rivets) clean and etch rails, structurally bond rails to top and re-rivet, seal and paint. Time consuming but not difficult or expensive. The right side of the hardtop has dents on the outside that will require the use of a slide hammer to repair. The inside surfaces show no damage. This is the original paint on the car. It is not very pretty anymore but if you want to be able to see exactly what you are getting into then it is what you want. This car will restore nicely to a first-class Cruiser that will have no problems or shortcomings that need an excuse. I believe that all the emission gear is there however, I must admit that even though my knowledge of these cars is quite extensive, I know little about the emission system operation or components. Neither one of my personal Cruisers are equipped. The door panels are presentable but not perfect. Headrests are good. Seats need to be reupholstered. New part included that has not been installed: New S.O.R dash cap Additional photos on request. A $500.00 deposit is required which is refundable if the car is not as described. I have another FJ40 on eBay now. Its story is similar to this one.
