Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I'm letting go of my garage ornament, but not without some regret. I originally purchase this car as a restoration project. Unfortunately, I don't believe I will ever have the time to commit to the type of restoration that this car deserves. For the unaware, this MGB is from the earliest year of the manufacturing of the MGB. It is car number 984, and is a left-side drive As far as I could determine, I am the 3rd owner. The previous owner had it the longest, having purchased it in the late 70's and selling it to me in 2002.It has been "worked on" over the years with the most substantial changes being that the original 3-main bearing was replaced with a 5-main bearing engine, and the original green being painted over. The engine was replaced by Quality Coaches of Minnesota (well known in the local British car market). I spoke with the over of QC after I purchased the car and he seemed to have a very good memory since he remembered the car just based on the VIN. He told me the original block was either blown or the bearings were seized. He also said that he was pretty sure that he may still have the original block since he rarely throws any parts away. I don't know the current condition of the engine though since I have never gotten too in depth in attempting to start it.In terms of the items that have been done by previous owners, here is what I know:1. Engine swap2. Repainting - from green to red 3. 12-volt upgrade - although I'm not sure how much of the original wiring was replaced 4. Spark plugs, plug wires, coil, distributor, and coil replaced - that was as close as I got to restarting the engine5. New tires and inner-tubes - have 0 miles on them since they were purchased specifically for storageAs far as the body condition goes, there are plenty of sore spots and plenty of rust. I think the previous owners son fancied himself as some sort of body work guy, based on the attempted repairs prior to the red paint job. The repair work wasn’t the best (see photos at rear tires). I have all of the trim though, with the exception of the windshield wiper arms. Most of the body panels are in good shape, but there are some problem spots – rear quarter panels, rocker panels, & floor pan. The original steel wheels are gone, but the rest of the original items are still with the car. It still has the frame for the convertible top, but the cover is long since gone.As for the interior, it needs work. The floor pan is questionable, with some holes under the carpet. The factory radio is missing, and someone added some aftermarket stereo speakers. I also have a Tonneau cover for the passenger side when the convertible top is down. I also have a set of seat belts that were installed as some point. My personal assessment on what needs to be done could be summarized by saying that it needs a ground-up restoration. I also want to be sure that any potential buyers understand that while I think this car has fantastic potential, it is by no means ready to hit the road.I wish I could keep the car, I really do. I'm smart enough though to realize that my passion to restore this car isn't there right now. Not to mention that I think this car deserves a quality hand that can honor the heritage of the car. The is a very early production model, and it would be amazing to see it totally restored. It would also be really cool to see how many left-side drive cars prior to number 984 are still around.
