Vehicle Detail
1991 For Mustang GT Convertible OK, we'll get the bad stuff out of the way first: - The car has a salvage title. When I bought it two years ago, I didn't notice that the title had "Rebuilt Salvage" on it, and the seller certainly didn't mention that fact. I know nothing about the accident leading to it being totaled, or when it happened. There is a tag on the underside of the hood from New York's salvage reinspection process. I can not see anywhere that the car was rebuilt or had suffered a terminal impact. It drives straight, doesn't pull, and all the body panels line up - in my opinion - as well as they should on a 23 year old vehicle. - The only rust I see on the body is around the wheel well on the passenger's side. - Somebody did some screwing around under the hood - the radiator fan is hotwired, and runs continuously when the car is on. The battery has been relocated to the trunk. The AC compressor and plumbing has been removed. - The interior is a little rough. The seats are well worn, and a number of plastic trim pieces are loose. - The oil pressure gauge occasionally works. The speedometer reads about 20MPH high - I can't remember exactly how off it is, but it needs to be recalibrated. - There is no radio, and I believe that the factory harness was cut. - The foam window seal for the rear driver's side window is missing - I'm not sure if the odometer reading of 62,508 is correct. I've never ran a CarFax on it to look for the actual mileage. - The rearview mirror is cracked. The driver's side side-view mirror has some glued-in rectangle of mirror, which rendered the power mirror adjustment non-functional. It's legal enough to pass inspection, but is next door to worthless for seeing anything. Now that that's taken care of, the good (or better) stuff: - The top was replaced before I bought the car. It is in very good shape. - The engine was replaced with a different year. I don't know what year it was replaced with, but the plugs for a 1991 5.0 DO NOT fit this engine. - The transmission has been rebuilt and a shift kit put in. Even with a bad fuel pump it would chirp the tires at every shift. - I had the following items replaced last winter, and the car has been driven about half a mile since then: - Power steering rack - Distributor - Headers - Fuel pump - Outside door handles - Transmission cooler lines The car has cruise (and it works!), tilt, AC, power locks, mirrors, and windows, power lumbar seats, and 16" Mustang rims (the tires are fair, but nothing great). It is certainly drivable as it sits, but to be "really nice" it will need work. The Mustang runs a little rough on startup, but is pretty smooth within a minute. I'm guessing a sensor is bad somewhere, as the idle is a little high, and goes 500RPM up and down cyclically. The brakes feel a little squishy after the winter when I drove it down the driveway and back. Since the new fuel pump was installed, the car has a lot more power - just taping the gas breaks the tires loose on the driveway. I'm selling the car because I have vehicular ADD - I see a car, fall in love with it, buy it, put a bunch of money in it, then get bored and sell it at a huge loss. Genius, right? In that vein, I'm also selling my 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood, 1987 Fiero GT with Lambo doors, 1988 Fiero with a new .060" over 2.5L and a running / driving 1987 parts car, and a 1999 F-350 14' box truck with tommy lift. If you're interested, let me know. Of course, the disclaimer: THIS CAR IS BEING SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. A $300 non-refundable deposit is due at the auction close, and the balance within one week. The car can be picked up anytime before the end of August. If you have any questions, please ask me!
