Vehicle Detail
Since 1964 when I bought my first BMW bike and sold my last English bike, my primary hobby has been BMW motorcycles. Due to my age, I have replaced my R1150RT with one that is eaiser for me to manage. I have always been very focused on taking excellent care of my bikes, and this motorcycle that I am offering for purchase reflects that high level of care. This bike has, by far, been the most reliable bike that I have ever owned. The only problem that this bike has ever had is when the left fork seal started weeping at 35K miles, which resulted in the replacement of both fork seals. When I bought the bike from the dealer, it had 2,361 miles on the odometer, and the rest of the miles were added during my possession. I have kept detailed records on the maintenance of the bike and welcome any questions that you might have. Special attention has been paid to making sure that the brake system has received the recommended service as BMW specifies rather than a quick fluid flush. During my ownership I have never riden the bike in the rain, power washed it or allowed it to sun bake in a parking lot. I have not used it as a "commuter bike," since I have been retired during the years of ownership. I have always kept the bike in an attached garage when not being ridden. The hardware has no rust, since my normal care is to wipe down my bikes after every ride in order to remove dust and insects using damp microfiber towels which has worked well since the bike has always had a coat of wax. Mechanically and cosmetically, the bike is excellent and is ready to travel as the new owner sees fit. The two cosmetic imperfections caused from road debris are shown in the photos. The rest of the paint and luggage is excellent, without the common scrapes and scars. The primary use of the bike has been on state and county roads; therefore, the front of the bike is not peppered with marks that result from a lot of high speed travel. The tank bag has always been used with a foam pad and polyethylene film near the straps to protect the paint . The major service which includes engine, transmission, and final drive oil changes, along with air filter, spark plugs, and throttle body sync and valve adjustment was performed at 36,337 miles. The complete brake and clutch system was flushed 6/16/14 at 37,058 miles. The alternator belt was renewed at 35,420 miles. Included with the sale of the bike are the tail trunk and side bags which are keyed to the bike and BMW tank bag, complete with extender and raincover. The tank bag's clear top has no discoloration. Please note that the reflective material on the rear of the luggage is not directly attached to the luggage, but instead, attached to custom fabricated aluminum plates that reproduce the contours of the bags. This reflective material is the high-quality retro-reflective , UV-resistant, 3M product. The aluminum plates are attached to the luggage only with small dabs of clear silicone sealant, and the plates can easily be removed with a piece of fishing line, leaving the luggage in its original condition. The bike also has the BMW radio package along with the BMW locking sidestand as used on police bikes. The locking sidestand is a great feature on this model. The original sidestand is included with the sale. The bike is also equipped with an Aeroflow windshield and headlight protector as well as a set of Throttlemeisters. The fog lights and headlight bulbs are Silverstars, and the mirrors have safety cords. The Techlusion R-259 is the plug in model that did not require any wires to be cut or spliced. The updates on the bike include metal fuel line disconnects rather than plastic, the updated left cam chain tensioner, and the much recommended port, complete with filter screen in front of the clutch slave cylinder which avoids costly damage in case of a failed slave cylinder. A new slave cylinder was added at the same time as a precaution. The front fender has been modified with a longer rear section to help protect the front of the bike, and I am including the original fender section with the sale of the bike. If you are the winner of this auction and you feel that I have misrepresented the bike, any funds that you have paid will be refunded and you can walk away. If you want to test ride the bike, bring cash with the understanding that if the bike is damaged during the test ride, the bike has been sold. Bid with confidence.
