Vehicle Detail

This is a very clean 1972 Porsche 911T Targa that was purchased by its present owner in 1983 and used recreationally in nice weather. 113,803 Original Miles on This Car The current odometer reading is 13,803 miles. The present owner purchased this car with approximately 64,000 miles in 1983 and over the past 31 years has put just under 50,000 miles on the car. The speedometer has turned over once, so the actual mileage on the car is 113,803. The engine had undergone a substantial rebuild just prior to the present owner purchasing the car. Major mechanical work and approximate mileage/date of work is as follows: · 62,000 miles (1982) New pistons and cylinders, new intake and exhaust valves, reconditioned cylinder heads, factory reconditioned mechanical fuel injection pump, new timing chain, tensions, and guards. · 94,000 miles (1996) rebuilt transmission and new clutch · 1998 New stainless steel heater boxes California Car This is a California car and has been owned by the current owner since 1983. It was purchased by the current owner in northern California and was moved to Massachusetts in 1985. It has been used strictly as a summer pleasure car for the past 31 years. There is no rust on this car. The title is a California title. Running But Unused for Several Years The car is presently running and is currently registered for use in Massachusetts but has not had any significant road use for the past five years. It is started and run periodically. It has always smoked when it is started and it has always leaked oil. Both of these issues are common for these cars. The clutch on the car currently hangs until the engine warms up. The cause of this problem is unknown and has not been investigated. Very Clean Car Inside and Out The paint job is good with no dents, scratches, or dings. There are some very small chips on the back edge of the driver’s door, but these are very small and largely unnoticeable. There is a dent in the stainless steel roll bar on the passenger side, and a dent in the passenger side exterior rocker panel just above the bracket for the tire jack. There is some minor pitting in the chrome on the exterior door handles. With the following exceptions the interior is all original, including the dashboard (which is unusual for these old Porsches since the California sun generally cracked them); the radio, the door speakers, and the window cranks have been replaced. The dash and the front seats have been covered to protect them from sun damage for the past 31 years. The seats are vinyl and are in good condition with no damage. The clock is original, but does not work. The Targa top is in good shape, but the headliner in the Targa top is presently sagging and needs to be re-glued. All in all this a really nice car that was purchased 31 years ago to drive recreationally on nice days. It is now and always has been a head-turner. The present owner has reluctantly concluded that it needs a new owner that wants to drive it recreationally or to undertake a restoration to make it truly pristine.
