Vehicle Detail
This is a triple-red 1966 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S survivor with 78K original miles. Very nicely equipped with performance options including high performance 273 V8 (235 HP), 4-speed transmission, manual steering/ brakes, and HD suspension with front swaybar. One of only 2,970 Formula S cars built with 4-speed built in 1966. Always garaged and loved, no winters, 2nd owner for over 25 years with original owner history. Body This car has gleaming, un-faded 100% original paint with no bodywork or accidents ever; a few small dings in the paint are identified in pics below. There is some paint loss of the pinstripe on the left side of the car but the right pinstripe and the center stripe are excellent. There is no rust perforation on the sheetmetal with the exception of one small spot at the bottom of the left quarter panel to the rear of the wheel which is identified in pics below; it is inconspicuous and not normally visable unless one looks closely beneath the car. Doors fit and close as new with no sagging and all body gaps are excellent. Floors and trunk like new with original paint. All glass is excellent original; the plastic chrome lock-strip around the front and rear glass is original with age-cracking. Bumpers are rechromed. Chrome trim and stainless is excellent throughout. The anodized aluminum spears on the rear quarter panels are faded. Rubber seals and wind lace are original and excellent. Interior Interior including upholstery is original except carpet. Front seats have some age cracking at the top of the seatbacks and there is a small hole about a dime’s size on the left seat bottom, see pics below. Rear seat is perfect. Dashpad is mint and dash is excellent. Currently installed is a factory 1965 Hurst shifter but the excellent original reverse-lockout Inland shifter is also included. Seatbelts were re-webbed by Ssnake-Oyl. Drivetrain Engine and transmission are original. The original 3.23 ratio 7-1/4 inch rear was replaced with an A-body 8-3/4 inch rear with sure-grip (also 3.23 ratio, 741 pumpkin). Engine was repainted in the original color with new external gaskets; timing chain replaced with Cloyes double roller but engine has never been opened. Distributor is the original dual point. Carburetor is the original Carter AFB. New synchros/ gaskets/ bearings/ seals were installed in the transmission along with a new McLeod clutch. Car does not leak. Brakes are manual with 10 inch drums (original to car); all brake lines were replaced by Fine Lines reproductions (cosmetic reasons). Radiator is original and has not been recored. Suspension Front end was completely rebuilt with USA Moog components. Torsion bars and springs are factory original. Wheels / Tires Currently installed are 4-inch bolt circle Cragar Super Stock wheels but the original 14-inch steel wheels with mint mag covers/ special chrome lugnuts are also included. 90% tread remaining on radial tires. Car has the original factory-installed (not repro) Goodyear Blue Streak spare tire. Original jack assembly. Docs Have original broadcast sheet, Certicard, owner’s manual, sales brochure, and misc other original docs. Valid PA title and currently registered as an antique vehicle. Broadcast sheet / data plate highlights: Build date (C06) Dec. 6 1965 Assembly plant (2) Hamtramck, Michigan Formula S Package (367) Includes 273HP V8, HD torsion bars, HD rear springs, front sway bar, HD shocks, tachometer, 6.95 x 14 special blue streak tires, heavy gauge 5.5-in wide 14 inch rims, 14-in bolt-on wheel covers, Formula S nameplates Paint (PP4/ P4H) bright red Stripes (W/ W) white side & center stripes Engine (32) 273 CI 4 barrel high performance Transmission (393) manual 4-speed Seats/ trim (P4H) red vinyl Bucket seats (564) Steering wheel (573) 3-spoke simulated wood grain Tachometer (577) Wheel cover (583) bolt-on mag style Glove box lock (509) Axle ratio (404) 3.23:1 Sure grip (408) Cigarette lighter (487) Map & courtesy lights (511) Seat belts (557) Deluxe retractable, 2 front & 2 rear Rear armrests w/ ashtrays (565) Anomalies: Although coded for cigarette lighter, apparently none was ever installed. There is no code for a radio but car has a factory AM that appears to be an original installation- maybe a dealer add-on? Runs and drives great- accelerates, shifts, handles, and stops great for a car of this vintage and is tight and rattle-free. Car will drive anywhere- everything works properly with the exception of the tach which is inaccurate and the windshield washer. Will drive to transport service if needed. Inspection available by appointment. Checks accepted but all funds must be secured before release with no exceptions. A runaway shopping cart caused these dings many years ago. Could be fixed inexpensively but elected not to so as not to disturb original paint. They are not really that noticeable. Scratch on left fender, touch up paint a bit mismatched- Next 2 pics are bottom of right quarter, there is no perforation, this is road rash & tar with a little surface rust- Next pic is bottom of left quarter showing some minor rust perforation, this cannot be seen from above. Rest of quarter has no perforation, just some road rash & tar with a little surface rust- Original spare, not a repro! Perfect original Inland shifter included, this is an original 1965 A-body unit- This is the original carpet tag- Keywords: a body chrysler mopar cuda 66 formula-sOn Jun-07-14 at 09:50:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Reserve is $18,000.
