Fresh condition all around – no dash cracks and clean spare tire well (2 problem areas). Having been restored from a bare shell in the late 90’s, it has been tastefully modified over my ownership of the past eight and a half years into a period appropriate road rally example through mild and reversible modification. These upgrades and refurbishments include: - Getrag 5 speed conversion with custom balanced drive shaft. Rear transmission bracket and mount has been used as a template for other 5-speed conversion cars - done right. - Rebuilt rear suspension. Freshly installed polyurethane bushings at the rear and new a-arm mounts. Powder coated rear subframe. Bilstein Sports shocks and H&R springs all around. Ireland Front stainless steel strut brace with wrinkle black powdercoated mounts. - Very rare period ATS 5-star wheels powder coated Mercedes silver and clear coated with wide Yokohama 205 tires and 5mm spacers in the front. - Ireland big brake kit with slotted and cross-drilled rotors and blue calibers. Upgraded 320 hubs with new wheel bearings and full alignment. Braided stainless steel brake lines front and rear. Rebuilt rear brake drums. - Custom stainless steel Supersprint modified headers and center pipe with side exhaust exit on driver’s side – ceramic coated.- Originally a Tii which VIN # will confirm, car comes fitted with a carbureted engine running 32/36 down-draft Weber freshly jetted and K&N air filter. Rebuilt E12 higher compression head with powder wrinkle coated cam cover. BMW Tii ignition system with improved spark. High voltage ignition wires, rebuilt steering box, and dual core radiator. Runs exceptional with good midrange torque. - Retains auxiliary fuel lines and mounts for conversion back to injection. No snorkel at engine bay.- Front and rear bumpers removed for weight savings (bumpers have a shortening kit for closer body fitment and are included). Custom light mounts utilizing front bumper locations with restored Cibie Oscar spot lamps. Hella H4 headlights with halogen bulbs and yellow protective film. Rear mounted back-up rally spot lamp on passenger side. Italian-spec flush turn signals and side reflector delete. - Power shut off mounted through the grill, built in battery charging unit mounted behind headlight, and twin Bosch horns. - Original OEM BMW Turbo Tail, Rally Armour Polyurethane Mud Flaps, and ‘74 correct gas lid with functioning lock and key. - Center console delete; VDO oil pressure and amperage gauges added in separate panel on transmission tunnel - fully functional. Hazard switch relocated under ignition key on lollipop panel. Custom aluminum shift knob powder coated black wrinkle. - Momo Prototipo steering wheel with genuine Alpina horn button. Schroth 4-pt Rallye harnesses in light blue. Autopower bolt in roll bar with removable cross brace all powder coated to match car. Rear seat frame/bolsters internally modified and reupholstered for minimally evasive bar fitment. Halon fire extinguisher mounted along cross brace. Rear lap belts removed though included with the sale. All receipts and service records have been retained from this ownership period. All work carried out on this lovely 2002 is of the utmost workmanship, having been performed by BMW professionals or myself. All features on the car are in full working order. I have spent a lot of time and money making this a unique and special example of the mark that will not be mistaken for another 2002. Only problem areas of mention are as follows: directional steering column unit internally cracked but functional, small paint bubble on drivers side rear fender arch and front fender beneath indicator, small patch of paint imperfection on passenger side door – photos available. Sunroof seal needs replacing and new seal is included with the sale. Car is extremely straight and dry throughout. The car has clear title and is registered for road use as a 1973. Includes many parts and spares accumulated over my years of ownership. More photos available upon request. PPI inspections and personal viewings invited; car will not disappoint. Selling to make room for another vintage BMW. $1,500 deposit due 24hrs after close of auction with full payment to be completed within 7 days of close of auction. Car is located at my residence in Irvine CA. Vehicle transport is the responsibility of the buyer. Please contact seller prior to close of auction with questions or concerns. These will be answered in a timely manner in the order in which they were received. Thank you. On May-22-14 at 08:55:13 PDT, seller added the following information: There seems to be a bit of confusion on the "steering column directional unit" - this is the actual sending unit that is cracked internally (ie the left directional stalk base). Though when pushing down or up to engage the directional, it does still function correctly. There is nothing wrong with the steering column itself.
