Vehicle Detail
2005 Toyota GEN 2 Prius GREAT MILEAGE!!! For sale by original owner with NO RESERVE Body/paint has minor imperfections, one scrape rear right retouched with silver paint (see photo). Front bumper has a 3.5" slot through (from hitting a trailer hitch). Wheels on the Gen2 are alloy but have a plastic ring on the outer edge - these are intact but banged up and cracked. Other than that paint is scratched or worn in some areas. Note some of the photos show carpool stickers that I have since removed (they were no longer valid). Interior carpet is worn through at drivers, other than that there are no holes or tears in carpet or upholstery. I detailed the interior today so it's pretty clean but some minor stains remain on carpet and upholstery (see photos). CD Player is finicky (has been since new), sometimes difficult to get it to accept a disk (we have found a small cardboard 'pusher' sometimes helps). Other than this the accessories all work great including air conditioning. The car does not have the integrated navigation system nor keyless entry. Includes three key modules and emergency mechanical key (I learned the hard way to keep a spare mechanical key under a fender and a spare module in the car!) New catalytic converter installed by dealer under warranty at 136,500 (this is $1600 in California for). This is a typical exensive maintenance item around 150k in California (although you get a heavy duty cat that will last longer). Coolant pump, steering linkage, accelerator pedel recalls completed at dealer. I replaced the transmission oil, engine and inverter coolant and spark plugs 123,000 (trans oil and coolant used Toyota OEM brand). I installed new brake rotors and ceramic brake pads in the front at 158,500 I just had new KYB struts and Monroe Strut-Mate mounts installed in the front (and aligned) - drives really great now and some previous annoying noises are gone. Cost of struts and labor was $500 (I got a good deal on the struts and mounts in 2012 and finally got them installed). I also just installed a new Optimus deep cycle 12V battery (got a good deal for $160). This is the best 12V battery for the Prius by far - stock battery will go dead if car is parked for over a week, and the resulting low drainage is hard on a normal battery (but the Optimus is designed for this). The main traction battery (hybrid battery) threw a code recently due to a bad module, I reconditioned and repaired the hybrid battery including replacement of five modules (I'm an engineer by training, researched the best testing techniques and purchased the required equipment). The testing and reconditioning process includes individual load testing and balancing of all 28 modules so this battery is in reasonable condition now - not as good as a new but should give good service for several years. The engine is running fine, oil consumption is a bit high at 1qt per 1000 miles, but it's steady over at least the last 20,000 miles (not increasing). I had an oil analysis done by Blackstone about 10,000 miles ago which was normal for this car and age (I can't find the dang report now though). A Toyota tech I know says the Prius' Atkinson cycle engine uses more oil than standard engine due to the valve timing - the owner's manual states normal oil consumption is up to 1.1 qt per 600 miles (page 209). He said most Prius deaths are due to oil starvation when mileage increases and owners don't top up between oil changes. This car should give good economical service for several years. Used engines, reconditioned batteries, etc. are readily available to keep the car economically maintaned for many years - Google "luscious garage taxi" for the story of taxi service Prius that last 350k miles and more. I have tried to disclose everything that could be of concern to buyer, including items that would never be noticed until after the sale, and have made substantial repairs before offering for sale, including some (like the Optimus battery) that would not be noticed, but will make the car nicer to own (just noticed a burned out headlight bulb I will fix tomorrow). I can't think of anything I have not disclosed here that will be a "surprise" for you later. I have 100% positive feedback as buyer and seller - you will not get this type of service and treatment from most sellers! That said, the car is sold as-is with no warranty or obligations on my part once you drive away. If I had not recently purchased another vehicle I would have kept this myself (especially after the improvement with the new struts and reconditioned hybrid battery). Includes owner's manual and maintenance records. Questions, inspections and test drives are welcome (send me a message for phone numbers, address, etc.). Thanks for looking!!! On May-11-14 at 18:26:44 PDT, seller added the following information: Update Sunday May 11:Driver side headlight lamp replaced (passenger headlight was replaced recently)Air Filter replaced (discovered I had one on hand so threw it in).Tire condition: nearing end of life but still legal (getting close to wear indicators), worn evenly, front right has a very slow leak.On May-12-14 at 11:05:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Update Monday May 12: I found the oil analysis report, it was longer ago than I had recalled, at 120,263 miles on 5-16-2010. I just uploaded a photo of the report. On May-15-14 at 20:28:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Update Thursday May 15: I just replaced the PCV valve - I had one on hand and figured why not throw it in? Old valve seemed OK. Apparently there's lots of local interest in this car, I put signs on it with tear-off strips (with Ebay auction number and ending time) - most of them disappeared.
