Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1997 Honda XR600R Dual-Sport motorcycle. I bought this motorcycle from a local Honda dealer around 1999. The bike already had the baja kit, dual-sport street lighting kit, and Yoshimura exhaust installed when I got it. The last time I rode it was last summer. It ran great, really torquey...popped wheelies like nobody's business. A fun bike to have on the trails, fast and reliable. Why am I selling this motorcycle? Well, for the same reason I'm selling my 2001 HD Sportster. On January 26th, 2014 I had a heart attack. My first one. It was the scariest experience I've ever had and it changed my life. I'm choosing to sell these items now so that if my health worsens, my estate won't have to sell them at a huge loss. I don't want to sell these bikes but, sadly I got bills to pay and I need to clean out the house. Is there anything wrong with this motorcycle? Well, that depends on your perspective. It's not a new bike so don't expect it to be new. I took care of it and kept it in the garage while I've owned it. The plastic is faded in places (could use a buffing I suppose) and the tank decals are in bad shape (I recently bought a heat gun and I had thought about taking the tank decals off, but haven't done it and don't plan on it at this point) . The bike has been sitting for about 8 months since I last started it up. So, it will need the carburetor bowl cleaned out and a fresh tank of gas. Lastly, one of the turn signal mounts on the front needed some epoxy to glue it back together (see photo, I fixed that last night but the glue I used was not strong enough). Are there any mechanical issues/oil leaks? No, not that I'm aware of. The spots you see underneath the bike are water droplets...I just washed the bike a few minutes before I took those photos. Will the bike start right now? No, I cannot kick the bike with my heart condition. And, as I've noted above...it needs fresh gas and a carb clean. How many hours do you think the engine has on it? Is that the true mileage? The odometer had about 6 or 8 miles on it when I got it. The previous owner had the baja kit/light kit/muffler installed so I have no way of knowing how many hours were on the engine prior to hooking up the odometer. The bike was spotless when I got it so I doubt it was ridden all that much. Does the bike have good compression if you try to start it? Yes, the bike has plenty of compression...my friend already tried to start it and that's when he suggested we clean out the fuel bowl and put in some fresh gas. The bike was last titled in 2001 and registered as TMU, what's up with that? 2001 is when I purchased the bike. As I understand it, TMU is a registration classification for the conversion from off-road to road. Since the bike when new did not come with any lights, turn signals, horn, mirror, speedometer, etc. it had to be inspected to see that all road requirements were met to be safely operated on the road. Does this bike have an electric start? No, it does not have electric start and cannot easily be converted to it. It is kick start only. Where is the bike located? In the Mt. Vernon area of Alexandria, Virginia 22309 Is the title free and clear and do you have it in your possession? Yes, the Title is clear, in my name, and in my possession. What happens next after I click the Buy It Now button? Congratulations, you just got a great bike at a fair and reasonable price! Upon winning the auction, email me your name and telephone number, and tell me how soon you will be able to come get the bike. Right now the bike is stored safely in my garage. When you come over, take a look at the bike and take a look at the title, if everything is satisfactory to your liking...hand me the cash. I'll sign over the title and you'll load up the bike. Take good care of it...I didn't get to ride it all that much because of my old job...just get her running and enjoy. This motorcycle was previously tagged and inspected in the State of Virginia. So, it does have a horn, turn signals, headlight, speedometer, and brake light. Everything worked fine when it last ran. In summary, STREET LEGAL but needs a rear view mirror (I misplaced the old mirror when I moved). I also have an extra set of tires I'll throw in if you choose to buy this bike. Thanks for looking!
