Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1963 63 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop. This is a No Reserve auction. If your looking for a SUPER NICE project car, STOP SEARCHING – this is the one for you! Although it doesn’t currently have much “curb appeal” – this car is 99% complete, runs, drives, and is a straight, rust free car. The floor pans still have factory primer/paint on them. With just a little work, this car could be a driver that you could enjoy while working on it. This car is a 327 (250hp), 3-speed column shift, with Azure Aqua paint (Code 918) and aqua interior (Code 853). The running motor (F0425SA) is non-numbers matching, as originally it was a 6 cylinder car (Model 1747). This is an original CA black plate car, was a daily driver until last licensed in 1996. Car sat until 2009 when a friend purchased it. At that time we installed new front/rear rubber brake lines, ft/rear brake shoes, dropped/ cleaned gas tank, new sending unit & strainer, installed new rubber fuel line sections, new fuel pump, rebuilt 4 bbl carb, points, rotor, cap, plugs, air filter, heater hoses, 9” single diaphram power brake booster with dual reservoir master cylinder, rebuilt wheel cylinders. We got the 327 running and drove car around the yard. Friend lost interest, and the car sat until January 2014 when I acquired it. I’d really like to keep this car as a mate to my other 63 Impala (completed in 2002), but must sell it to fund other projects. Engine: I’ve added new plug wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, vacuum line to distributor, changed oil & filter, thermostat, radiator cap, throttle return spring and bracket, newer battery, and a good used heater core. I replaced 9" booster with a new 8" dual diaphram booster. I ran a compression test and cylinder pressures run (from 1-8) 158 psi to 174psi. Engine starts up and runs smoothly, although after sitting so long I‘d go thru carburetor again. Car has a single exhaust system. This is a good running engine - it is very responsive to the throttle, but cannot guarantee it. I have only driven it around the block a couple times. Alternator works - 13.6 volts. Transmission: I removed/disassembled/lubed steering column so it shifts smoothly and easily. Replaced turn signal and shifter arms with good used ones. Adjusted shifter and clutch linkage. Original 3 speed transmission. There is quite a bit of vibration when releasing clutch in reverse (only). Body: Light surface rust (patina) on roof and top of quarters and deck lid where body work was started in 1997. No rust (rot) - inner/outer rockers, braces, floors, quarter panels, doors, deck lid, hood. Doors, deck lid, and hood open/close easily. Right fender has minor damage to front edge in headlight area and showing some rust behind wheelwell (I’d replace). Trunk has dent behind upper trunk molding on right side that could be pulled out very easily. The right side between door & rear wheelwell is dented and has pull marks (holes) from previous body work. Front fenders are Biscayne and have had top trim holes welded closed - nicely done. You will need to drill holes for front chrome stripes (included). Dash & Electrical: Padded dash (badly cracked), both air vents open/close, newer battery, 1 key (and 2 duplicates) for ignition, glove box, doors, and trunk. Speedo/odometer??, All electrical (except clock) works including horns, 2 speed wipers, fan, cigarette lighter, gas gauge, oil pressure/cold lights/high beam indicator, dash lights, glove box light, ignition key light, parking lights, high/low beam headlights, brake/turn signal/backup lights, and license plate light. New bulbs were added as needed. All four interior lights turn on from both new headlight switch and from opening driver or passenger doors. E-brake works but missing an emergency brake indicator light switch. Interior: front and rear seats were re-upholstered in aqua vinyl and dark blue cloth inserts with gray specks, and new aqua headliner material purchased in 1997. Front seat needs piping replaced (mice damage) on seat bottom and three aluminum trim pieces (included) installed. Rear seat will need to be completely redone - vinyl & material are good but white binder material is rotten from water damage and seat cushion material removed by mice. Headliner material still in box. All interior trim present for doors, quarters, and armrests. Exterior trim: all in very good to excellent condition except hood lip molding, upper trunk molding, and quarter and door side trim. The trunk cove molding on right side has a couple pen-point dings. I replaced right upper and lower eyebrow trim, lower trunk lip trim, and “C” moldings around taillights with excellent used pieces left over from my Impala project. Glass: clear side & backglass in good condition. Shaded/tinted windshield – two small chips & very light wiper scratch (rt side). Windows go up/down easily, vents open/close easily (installed rebuilt left vent regulator). Chrome window frame for left door glass is badly pitted; both vent frames show some pitting. Bumpers: both front & rear in very good to excellent condition – great shine, no deep scratches and one small dent in front center section, comes with extra front bumper. License plate panels are in good condition with some small dents. Grill is straight and good condition with a few minor dings. Frame: nice original 1 piece box frame with no modifications or rot, solid body mounts, 308 open differential (BW code). Wheels/Tires: 14” chrome wheels have rust, used tires are rollers only. If your going for that original look, I’ve provided 5 very nice Impala hubcaps. Areas needing attention: 1) I’d replace right fender, 2) right side between door & rear wheelwell is dented with pull marks (holes) from previous body work, 3) deck lid has dent on right side behind upper trunk trim, 4) trunk pan and under rear seat areas are rusty and need rust treatment because of water leakage from trunk dent and cracked backglass rubber. Missing parts: radio, radio antenna mast, jack/base/handle, windshield washer spray nozzles, e-brake indicator light switch, washer fluid bottle, trunk interior light, flywheel dust pan and cover. As you can see from photos and this description, this is a SUPER car so don’t miss out!!!!! With just a little work, this could be a car that you could drive and enjoy and work on it as funding allows. Or this would be a GREAT starter car for someone or as a father/son project to restore.
