Vehicle Detail
This is a very rare car. Oldsmobile made the World's first Turbocharged Production car with this model. According to the Jetfire Registry, there are less then 10 of these in the World with the Turbo in running condition. If you have never heard of a factory Turbo V8 Jetfire, you are not alone. There is lots of info on the Web about it. At car shows people flock around it and are amazed that Oldsmobile built such a car. TheTurbo Rocket engine is all Aluminum V8 215 ci, 215 hp. This car was found in a garage in Los Angeles where it had been stored for over 25 years. Factory options include: power windows, power brakes, power steering, Air Conditioning (needs recharge) original Jetfire specific 4 speed Hydramatic automaticTransmission. It still has the original paint on the car, although it is under a sealed lacquer overcoat that was applied sometime in the 1970s. The engine and Turbo have just been rebuilt and the car runs fantastic. It drives great and the Turbo and factory Methanol injection system works perfectly. The interior is beautiful and all original except the carpet and front seat uphostery are new. 4 new correct size tires. Body:The car is a rust-free solid California car. Very clean underbody also. All Jetfire trim is there and in good condition. The paint looks good but has chips and scratches. A couple of small dents on the top of the one fender. Floors and trunk are rust free and solid. Interior:All original and in great condition. Factory Turbo Boost gauge on Console works perfectly. NOS Naugahyde on the 2 front seats. New correct carpet. All interior paint is original. All power windows work. Radio and all gauges work. Clock does not work. Engine:Just rebuilt with 400 miles on it. All correct and original fasteners were cleaned and re-used, all correct hoses, hose clamps, brackets, etc. were used. The transmission was rebuilt before I got the car. I adjusted it and put in a new filter. It shifts like new. Turbo:Factory Turbo was rebuilt and recoated the correct Red Porcellan and Red paint. Factory "Turbo Rocket Fluid" Methanol injection system works perfectly also. Brakes:All brakes have been rebuilt, including original master cylinder. This car is a joy to drive. It is super-smooth and gets looks every where it goes. Its a very light weight car with lots of power. No Turbo-lag at all. Runs on premium gas.I really hate to sell it, but I have another project waiting. Please do not ask the reserve or what I want for it, as this is an auction. I have been in contact with them for a while now and they are very excited to do it, as they have been wanting to feature one of thses cars for a long time, but could not find one. I will give the magazine the new owners contact information, for the photo shoot, if he chooses to want it. The new owner can be in the magazine with this car. All the windows and windshield are the original ones, with no cracks. On Apr-27-14 at 14:19:25 PDT, seller added the following information: Clock is now working. At today's Heartbeat Happining Car Show in Southern California, out of 200+ cars, including blown hot rods, Gasser replicas, customs, restorations, etc., this car won the award for Best Engine. On Apr-28-14 at 15:30:14 PDT, seller added the following information: As we are getting close to the reserve, we are also getting close to the end of the auction. I just want to say that the lucky bidder that wins this car will have a one of a kind, very rare, incredible to drive car that is also a highly desirable Historical Benchmark Automobile. This car is sure to skyrocket in value as more people learn that these cars exist. The #1 comment I hear at car shows is "I did not know that Olds made a Turbo car!" And people think the Patina of the paint is also great to see-it tells a story of the car.All that has to happen is for someone to step up, and remember, you won't be thinking about how much this car cost when you are enjoying driving around in such a Historically Significant groundbreaking car such as this Jetfire is. As more and more cars are turbocharged nowadays, manufacturers can thank Oldsmobile for engineering the very first one. There are well over 500 watchers of this auction and that has surprised me a bit, as well as the almost 7000 views of the auction. The reserve is very reasonable and the bids are almost there. Also, I still have the 4 bias-ply white-stripe tires that were on the car when I got it, and they can be seen in some of the Photobucket photos. Those photos also show the original paint on the front and back of the original wheels. The tires are in great shape and not rotted, cracked or worn. I will include these if you want them. Those original wheels and the original wheel covers are on the car now with the new radial white-stripe tires. Thank you.
