1981 DMC-12 Delorean Only 13,601 Miles Since New! John DeLorean, a man with one hell of a resume not only in the automotive industry, but in automotive history. DeLorean was responsible for the GTO....the car that started the muscle car craze. Although DeLorean was responsible for the design of a lot of popular cars that came out of Detroit, he was also known for taking a leap of faith and founded and built the DeLorean Motor Company in the late 70's. Every one can read online about what happened to the DMC but none of what is written captures the true essence of why he decided to start the DMC. John DeLorean loved the automobile. He put his heart and soul into what he did and you can tell that through the cars he's designed and engineered. But there was a point in his life, or some would say a void, that he came to the realization that why couldn't he do what the Big Three has done and do it better, and take the collaboration of everything he has achieved and everything he yet wanted to accomplish and put it into the future of the DeLorean Motor Company. But what he failed to realized, or maybe knew but was clouded by the vision he had, was that he would need a tremendous amount of capital to fulfill his dream. Even with investors from Hollywood and the Government, the DeLorean ended before it could really show us what it was capable of and that's a pure shame. Its almost the same as Preston Tucker and what he tried to do in the late 40's. If they could have only finished what they have started, and had endless amount of capital to do so, there would be more to history then just the sad stories of what could of been. On the flip side, because of how things happened, the DeLorean is one of the fasted rising valued cars from the 80's because of it LOW LOW production numbers. Catching one of these in excellent shape is like trying to catch a GTO with tri power down a 1/4 mile. The DMC offered here today has VERY VERY low miles and in absolutely excellent condition. Please read on about this 1981 DeLorean.... Exterior: The exterior as you can see is in excellent original condition. The body shows no dings or dents. All the glass is in excellent condition and all the moldings as well are in excellent original condition. All the lights work properly as well. The car has been stored inside the majority of its life and has been driven only 13k miles since new. Tires where replaced due to dry rot and have less then 1,000 miles. Please look at the pictures and let us know of any questions. Interior: The interior as well presents original and in excellent condition also. Although the interior only has 13k miles on it or in it, you have to realize it is 33 years old. Don't expect to have it look showroom new, but it is as new as its going to look for the mileage and years on it. All the gauges work as they should as well as the radio. There are no rips or tears or cracks and the car is show ready as it sits. A/C works great and has been converted to 134A. Please let us know of any questions. Drivetrain: The drivetrain comes with the 5 speed gear box which made this a little more responsive then the automatics back in the day. The engine is so original that we believe the original belts are still on the pulleys. The DeLorean was powered by the Vouvrin V6 which was designed and engineered by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo. The engine runs and sounds great for the year and the clutch is responsive and smooth. You could actually drive this car anywhere. Please look at the pictures and let us know of any questions.
