Vehicle Detail

I love this car, but it's time for a new home...I'm messing around with a '73 BMW now! The Good: This is a very unmolested car. The original wood-grained dash is in amazing shape. The original engine runs great. I rebuilt the transmission and carburetor, replaced the fuel tank with a top quality tank from Bob Drake, and rewired most of the car. New, Ford script battery. New, original style (but not original) hydraulic shocks at each corner. Pretty much everything is here, even a 1934 wind wing! The car will drive all day without complaint. The Bad: The speedometer "sort of" works--needs overhaul. A spare is included in sale. The vacuum windshield wiper motor is wrong and inoperative; originals are very hard to find. The top material is very tired; cotton batting started coming out on my last drive...it's not the correct material, anyway. I'd recommend LeBaron Bonney. The spare tire lock is missing a key. I have two spare tire hubcaps with locking mechanisms included in the sale. The Ugly: The Phaeton was repainted a few years ago, and is showing some cracks. It's the original color, judging from the firewall. The five tires look good and I've been driving on them, but they are pretty old. I'd recommend replacement before extensive driving. Some time in the past, someone replaced the steel floor with plywood. It was done well, but is not original. Steel floors are available for full restoration purposes. On Apr-08-14 at 15:49:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional information from an enthusiast: Dear djfordmanjack, Oh, wow! That's interesting!! That may explain the odd VIN...it doesn't conform to what is in all the Ford reference books, but the number on the frame rail and the number on the transmission housing match. The details on the car are for a very early '34, as it has a number of '33 carryover items like a non-functional throwout bearing grease cup. US buildt 34 bodies were extended right down to the running boards. Those bodies with the side spear originally had wooden floor boards instead of metal! It would be a shame to restore it to non correct specs. Maybe you could add this info to your auction regards Guenter - djfordmanjack
