Vehicle Detail
This auction ends Sunday, March 30th at roughly 7 pm, Mountain Time This 1985 Chevrolet K20 is a 3/4 ton, 4 wheel drive, heavy duty truck that has been in Colorado since new. I am the third owner of this mostly original truck - it runs and drives great, has excellent tires, and is ready for anything. Interior - The interior of this truck is clean and in very nice condition. It has been owned by non-smokers since new. Everything is original, with the exception of a modern radio and a carpet dash cover. That is the original seat, it has not been recovered! The original rubber floormat is in excellent shape. There are 3 sets of seat belts, all are clean. The windows roll up and down easily, and the heater controls work smoothly and properly. The stereo is an AM/FM/CD player and works fine. Exterior - The exterior of the truck is also in very nice condition. It has never been used as a “work truck”, it has never been wrecked, and all panels are original to the truck. It was repainted about 3 years ago in the original color. There has been small areas of patch work on the drivers cab corner and the lower rear corner of each rear wheel well - otherwise this truck is all original GM sheet metal. There is no rust on the bottoms of the doors, cab mounts, etc - see the pictures below. All of the glass is in good condition, as are the grill and chrome trim. The inside of the bed is very nice, as the truck was used with a slide-in camper for a majority of its life. The tailgate is straight and has not been bowed from heavy use. All of the doors, tailgate, and hood line up nicely and open and close easily - no sagging and no need to slam anything to get it to close. The chrome front bumper is nice and straight, and the factory tow hooks and air dam are still in place. Mechanical - This truck runs smoothly, shifts well, and drives down the road nicely. The engine is a 5.7 liter 350 V8 that is original and well-maintained. It has not been modified, and all original equipment is in place (emissions parts, factory air cleaners, etc). There is an unusual air pre-cleaner that I haven’t seen before, but is factory as it’s listed on the SPID option list in the glovebox. The starter and alternator have been replaced, and the truck has a good Interstate battery. The exhaust is nice and quiet, as it was from the factory, with a catalytic converter in place. The transmission is a 4 speed automatic (700R4) with overdrive. It shifts nicely and is working properly. An auxiliary transmission cooler has been added. The 4 wheel drive system works well, and the truck as a whole has seen proper maintenance. I have a folder with several receipts over the years for service work like brakes, wheel bearings, u-joints, etc. The Goodyear Wrangler tires have excellent tread and are 235/85R16 Load Range E on the original steel wheels with factory hubcaps. The front lockout hubs work properly and turn easily, and the axles have a 3.73 gear ratio. Flaws - I have been told I’m often too critical, but here are the things I’d want to know if I were buying this truck sight-unseen. Please don’t get the wrong impression from this paragraph - this is a very nice truck overall, as you can see from the photos below (which were taken only a few days ago). I simply don’t want the new owner to have any surprises or disappointments. The paint is smooth and shiny overall, but there are some areas on the bedsides and tailgate where it has a bit of texture, possibly due to poor prep work prior to painting. I could not get this to show in my pictures, and it is limited to the bed and tailgate - none on the cab, doors, etc. The drivers cab corner along with both rear wheel wells have had rust repair work performed prior to painting. Inside the front wheel wells, there are a small cover plates held on with 3 bolts that trap moisture and after 29 years, these are rusted through. There are some dings in the hood and a small dent on the drivers side rocker panel. At one time it had steps bolted under the doors, this has left 2 holes on each side. Four camper tie-down hooks were removed from the bedsides prior to paint but 8 small holes remain. The dashboard is cracked under the carpet cover. If the oil pressure is over 30psi (which is nearly all of the time) the gauge will read extremely high. The fuel gauge never reads more than 1/4 tank - it is accurate below 1/4 tank and works for both tanks, so you don’t have to worry about running out without notice. One tire was replaced under warranty (with a Goodyear Wrangler of the same size and load rating), so the tread pattern is slightly different (all tires are equally worn, and all are in good condition and won’t need replacing for a long time). Overall - This truck is a great driver. The steering is nice and tight, the truck doesn't wander down the road. The ride is firm, like a real truck should be. It doesn't squeak and rattle when driving over bumps. The doors open and close easily. The heater controls operate smoothly and precisely. The turn signals cancel themselves like they should. All of the lights work. The exhaust is nice and quiet. The truck runs, drives, and stops exactly like it should. The 3.73 gears combined with the overdrive transmission mean you can drive this truck at highway speeds without over-revving the engine or wasting fuel. Included - A clean Colorado title, along with the original owners manual packet, 2 sets of keys, and a folder of maintenance receipts. If you have any questions, please ask them prior to placing your bid. If you are local, or know someone who is, please consider coming to see the truck in person. Different things are important to different people, and while I have tried to describe all important aspects of the vehicle, it's impossible to cover every little detail. Please note that is an under dash light shining on the floor near the center, not discoloration Terms of Sale Buyer will be responsible for either having the vehicle shipped, or picking it up in person.
