Vehicle Detail
I picked up my 1994 Mazda MX5 Miata (5-speed manual trans) 3-1/2 years ago with just under 55,000 miles on it. She now has 79,976 miles, which means I put just under 25K miles (summer only miles) on the odometer since I have owned her. When I purchased this Miata I was told that it was “garage kept - summer driven only”. Based on the year and total miles at the time (and the car fax report I purchased), everything jived, what a sweet find, I grabbed it and have been very happy with it ever since. As for the time I have had this Miata, same thing … garage kept - summer driven only!! So it is quite impressive to see this ’94, not only with such low miles, but in such wonderful condition AND with a rust-free body. What makes this a special year? 1994 is when Mazda upgraded the engine to a 1.8L 4cyl (from the previous year’s 1.6L 4cyl engine). They also added frame support bar behind the headrests, larger disc brake pads etc. Does not sound like much big engine improvement but for such a light car it has amazing power to weight ratio, it really moves. Adding a passenger-side airbag to go with the one already in the steering wheel for 1994, Mazda made up for the additional weight by up-sizing the Miata's engine to 1.8 liters and 128 horsepower. The optional alloy wheels got wider, the fuel tank increased from 11.6 to 13.0 gallons, the brake disc diameter increased slightly as well, great little car, I just love the ’94. I took good care of it since I had it, always took care to get oil changed etc., it has all fairly new tires on it with plenty of tread left. I had just spent about $1,600.00 worth of upgrades last summer, including new aftermarket adjustable coil-over shocks (front and back, but I had only installed the front set last summer/fall), new high performance brake pads all the way around, special "dual beam" headlights kit has been recently installed also (they are low profile compared to the factory type, see the pics, they are very cool as you can see, yes they still open and close - not fixed position). I installed a new front bra, as the paint is hazed on the bumper, and now it looks much better (was cheaper than repaint). The finish is a bit hazed on forward most part of hood between the headlights, hard to see that in the pics, I believe this is due to the aged clear coat. I normally just wax that part of hood really good and that helps to diffuse that hazed look a little. Shortly after I purchased the car I had installed new speakers in the doors as well as in the headrests, good stereo already was installed (Pioneer single CD disc player). I had it professionally detailed before putting in into storage last fall, as usual. I always put fuel additive in the gas to stabilize it for winter etc., and has a cover over it too while in storage. It is not pristine despite how nice the pictures show, there are five or so little dings or small dimples here and there about the body in various places, nothing outrageous in my opinion, but no paint loss or rust around those dings or anywhere I can see on the body, a very solid car. I used to own a 1992 Mazda MX5 Miata back in 1994 and I loved it. So it was really cool to get one again and I enjoyed it fully each summer. In springtime, when I take it out of my storage unit, has always been very exciting times. I hate to let it go, but I have to sell some of my wonderful toys as I will be moving this summer and that will require a little extra cash. Sorry I totally forgot to include pictures under the hood. I will tell you, it has VERY CLEAN engine and engine compartment etc. I will do my best though to get a few more pictures uploaded before next Friday the 28TH. The vehicle is currently stored in Lansing IL 60438 … and I am located in Arlington Heights, IL 60004, so I need a little time because it is hour drive for me. This leads me to another point I want to make: The winning bidder can make arrangements with me to pick up the vehicle in Lansing, finalize transaction, and take position of the car there. Or I can bring the car back to Arlington Heights. I will be as flexible as I can be, but please know that if I bring car back to Arlington Heights there be another 60 or so miles on the car than what I have noted in the listing (of course). Noteworthy items: The emergency brake needs adjustment or fix. I was going to work this out when I installed the rear coilovers this summer, so that is still in need of attention. The “check engine” light comes on after about 20 minutes of driving. It had done that since I had the car, had mechanic look at that when I purchased the car, and they charged me about $800 to replace the ignition coil ... that never resolved the light coming on. So I kept the old ignition coil as it is probably still good, I never took the car back to dealer (they sucked). Otherwise this has caused no further issues, so I left it. It is probably just a fouled O2 sensor, but I really have not given it much further thought since I got the car. Recent Work:Godspeed SC-040 Type-RS Coilover Suspension Kit (Parts Cost $685.90)... I will tell you this, it was nothing but a nightmare. Despite my Terms stating clearly that I had a “NO SHIPPING” policy, some individual (from California!!) asked me if I would ship the vehicle. I told them “NO”, “NO” …. “NO”!! Yet they went on to bid, and WIN the auction. Shortly after winning they emailed me and asked me to help them arrange for the shipment of the vehicle!! I don’t know if it was because eBay embeds the shipping option in auto seller’s auction that led this person to think I actually was willing to ship the vehicle, but I specifically told them I WOULD NOT SHIP. Long story short, I was able to void the sale and spare myself the eBay sales fee and start over, but this guy actually tried to make me look bad with some comment about me “trying to get money outside of eBay … and will not ship”. My answer to this is “YES” I did not want to ship, hello, it was stated in my terms and I emailed them personally to state the same thing. Did I try to get money outside of eBay, ABSOLUTELY!! There is an option you can select IN EBAY to require cash balance (less deposit) when vehicle picked up. But maybe that “winning bidder” was referring to when I actually tried to accommodate them by allowing THEM to arrange for delivery if they wanted to use uShip or something (the methods available through eBay), when I told them they better pay me before any shipping company comes for the vehicle. In which case I would not hand over the tile, the keys, OR THE VEHICLE, before I had been PAID IN FULL. I gave them many options too that could make us both happy (or tried to anyway), I told them they could mail me personal check (which must clear first), cashiers or bank check (which I will make sure it cashes first) or cash money at time of pickup. The problem is this, how will a buyer arrange with shipping company to bring me cash money (will they get involved with part? I don’t know? Doubt it!). Further, will a shipping company sit in my driveway and wait for me to run to the bank and make sure their check clears before I let them take the vehicle (I doubt it!!). Because I could not imagine a streamline and safe way for both parties to get through that part I did offer they send me full payment somehow before the shipper comes for the vehicle. That method may be undesirable, but I did not know what else to do, but I DID give good options, I think they were out to scam me though. I mean who in California will pay for shipping of a 1999 Caravan with rust and 206,400 miles on it, hmmmmm. You see, there are too many things that would be difficult to “arrange” when dealing with the shipping of a vehicle. Now maybe some of you viewing this auction are well experienced with this and have a laugh about how complicated I may be making this, but I am not familiar with this and don’t have the time to learn all about it for one darn car sale, so please please PLEASE understand – I DO NOT SHIP!! BASIC STANDARD TERMS & CONDITIONS: THIS VEHICLE IS BEING SOLD BY PRIVATE PARTY AS-IS, WHERE-IS, NO GUARANTEES OR WARRANTIES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. A $200 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT VIA PAYPAL REQUIRED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF AUCTION CLOSE. PICK UP VEHICLE WITHIN 7 DAYS AUCTION CLOSE (UNLESS EXTENSION PROVIDED AT MY DISCRETION), WITH BALANCE OF THE PAYMENT DUE IN-FULL, IN CASH, OR A CERTIFIED BANK CHECK THAT I WILL CASH BEFORE I HAND YOU TITLE, KEYS & VEHICLE. OTHERWISE DEPOSIT IS FORFEITED, VEHICLE RELISTED, NEGATIVE FEEDBACK LEFT. NO SHIPPING, PICK UP ONLY!! DO NOT TRY TO NEGOTIATE PRICE WITH ME WHEN PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, IF YOU BID AND WIN – IT IS YOURS. I WILL DO MY BEST TO BE AVAILABLE TO SHOW YOU VEHICLE BEFORE YOU BID, THAT IS UP TO YOU. IF YOU TRY TO RENEGOTIATE AFTER WINNING, I WILL KEEP YOUR DEPOSIT AND WALK AWAY. SORRY, I DON’T HAVE TIME TO DILLY-DALLY. THANKS FOR UNDERSTANDING.
