Vehicle Detail

1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport Fastback PROJECT CAR 4 spd manual 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet engine 4 barrel close chamber heads and a 4 bolt main block My wife spotted it for sale in Gray GA many years ago. When we purchased it, it was a running car with a bad automatic transmission. The previous owner pulled out the manual transmission and installed the automatic, but left the all the pedals in the car. We sourced a correct replacement top loader 4sp with the Hurst shifter and installed it in the car. We had to custom make the Z bar and clutch linkage, because these 4spd cars are rare and the parts are hard to find. My friend, a local machine shop owner and Ford enthusiast, sourced the 351 Cleveland that is in it now. It was torn down and rebuilt. The original engine was a smog era engine so we pulled it out and replaced it with the high performance one he found for me. (We will list the details of the engine in the specs of the car). After we got this work done, we drove it for a couple of years to some car shows and a couple drag races and basically just enjoyed her. When we bought her, she originally came with a vinyl top. As most of you know rust will usually form under the vinyl. We knew something had to be done to the roof. Also, the floor pans in the passenger side were shot as well. At that point and time, we decided to strip her down with the great expectations of finishing her. We cut the roof out to remove the rust spots (not the pillars, just the roof sheeting). We did the best we could to form the shape and repair it. The passenger floor pan has been replaced. At the time we attempted all this work, replacement floor pans were nowhere to be found so once again we did the best we could. This was a first attempt at these type of repairs. It is by no means perfect but our plan was to hide any imperfections under a new vinyl top and put bucket seats in the front. Back then we had a lot more time and less projects than we do now. If we thought we had the time, we wouldn’t get rid of her. So you’ve heard this story before??? Yes, now we have decided that she needs to go to someone who wants to do what we never finished. It had been stored inside a garage the entire time, and we put aside all the pieces as we removed them. We went back to all those pieces, pulled them out and took pictures of them. The pieces are now all stored inside the car ready for her new home. We have taken as many pictures as we could so hopefully you can get an accurate representation of exactly what we have and where she is at. It has not been started in about 3-4 years. There was some gas in the tank when stored. She is what she is. We have all the glass except for the front windshield. That broke when we removed it, but should still be available from Safe-lite auto glass. This was purchased to be a street rod…..the A/C is not there and we didn’t buy it for creature comforts. My wife swears it is the sexiest sounding car she has ever heard. It was bought to be fun and it was and will be again. The parts, engine and transmission alone are worth way more than we are asking, but we really want to sell her as a whole car first as we would really like to see her go to someone who will once again get her back out on the road. We will only consider parting her out after all attempts to sell her whole are exhausted.
