Up for auction is a 1960 Triumph Speed Twin 5TA 500 cc Twin. The engine and frame numbers are matching. The bike has been stored in a climate controlled warehouse for the last 12 years. It is an older restoration, it looks great from a distance but could use a repaint. The primer has shrunk under the paint, leaving spider web cracks throughout (see close up pics). I rigged up a battery from one of my old Harley's, filed the points, added oil and gas and the bike started easily. It smoked a lot at first as it was severely wet sumped. After running a bit, the smoke cleared up and the bike ran and idled nicely. The oil circulated back to the oil tank as it should. The headlight (hi and low), tail light, brake light and horn function as they should. The bike will need a new battery. The tires show no signs of wear or dry rot. The rubber hand grips and "D" shaped nacelle grommets are split and cracked, they will need to be replaced. The foot peg and kick start rubbers are nice. Both front and rear rims have some blistering in the chrome (see pics). The other chrome parts are nice. There are several small nicks, scratches and touch-ups in the paint. There is some rust in the upper lefthand corner (50 mph) of the chronometric speedometer. Please look at the pictures and ask questions. I will be happy to answer with the best of my ability.
