Original 318, floor-shift automatic. This car was upgraded to a 440, 6-pk , Pistol Grip 4-speed and a 3:91 rear gear. This is what’s known as a pilot car see meaning below. (Pilot cars are just what the name implies, a vehicle run down the assembly line before regular production to ensure that everything will come together properly when they go full bore (panel fit, parts fit, assembly processes in synch with parts delivery and manpower requirements and so on). Don't know if the term "pilot car" is an official Chrysler one or an industry nickname. There isn't necessarily a set number of one or more, if things go perfectly a single pilot is all you need but if the process needs tweaking it requires what it requires. They will have very early build dates and sequence numbers.) This car was built on the 1st day of production August 1, 1970. The car retains all its original sheet metal other than the Shaker hood. Original front fenders louvers were factory stamped, not welded. A new trunk pan was used during restoration. Solid Cailifornia car before restoration. Meticulous frame-off, rotisserie restoration bringing this car to # 1 condition less than 500 miles ago. Super straight body with nice lines and gaps. Paint is show quality as is the factory bucket seats and the rest of the interior. 1970 440 block and 1971 4-speed were both completely rebuilt and gone through.
