Vehicle Detail
I have wanted one of these for 50 years, and just recently purchased this car in late October 2013, but sometimes “life happens” and my plans have had to change, and I will have to let it go....it was just Titled in Texas, Nov 12 , 2013 and is registered as “Antique”; I will retain the 1958 Texas license plate. I am not an ALFA guy, this is my first, and I do not know much about them , so I will try to tell as much as I can about it. This is a 1958 short wheel base 750D Giulietta Spider. The car has been modified by one of the previous owners with amongst other things, a 2000cc Weber carbureted engine number AR01615 * A96252 and a series 2, 5-speed gearbox. It has 40 amp Nippon Denso alternator & electronic ignition. Stainless wrapped headers going into high flow dual mufflers. Denso Crane Cams Fireball Electronic ignition. Electric cooling fan. Has (supposedly stock) 5.12 rear differential. A relined gas tank, new fuel pump, big brake master (1.25" bore), KYB gas adjusted shocks and a newer set of Kumho powerstar tires on light Borrani steel wheels. The car also has a new (5 yrs old, never seen weather) Stayfast canvas top, and a new front windshield. These Improvements were made two owners ago (I was told this by previous owner who owned it 5 yrs , he drove it “about 1000 miles”, as the bad economy hit right after he bought it) According to previous owner , the brakes were totally redone & a full service performed in August, 2013. He also had a new clutch installed as the old one installed by the owner previous to him , was ‘too hard’ to use. It is by no means original or a show car. Rear emblem shows “Guilietta Spider Veloce” , but I have no idea if that is correct (but obviously with the 2.0 L engine it at least performs as a “Veloce”). If you are looking for an original Giulietta Spider this car is NOT for you. It is definitely an "ab"Normale. It obviously has an aftermarket tachometer and late model Sony radio/CD player (no idea if radio works; I think the remote control battery is dead as well, maybe too old). I do not listen to the radio anyway while driving this type of car. Driver’s door window, doesn’t roll all the way down, it stays up about 1 inch. Convertible top is in very good shape, but is very cumbersome, for me, to put up and take down (I hear this is typical for these early Giuliettas) There may be other items that are modified but as I`m not knowledgeable about ALFA’s, I am not sure of what would be “correct vs modified” on this car. But, the car runs great and stops as it should. Odometer shows 49k plus miles. Very unlikely the correct mileage. Engine miles are unknown to me , but it seems like a fairly recent rebuild. I think the back of seat backs should be redone to look good. But unless they are folded forward, they look ok. The car has no spare or jack. The fuel gauge shows about ¾ full when actually full, but works, seems to be just abv red when half full. There is a spot or mid section of rear bumper (to the pass side under license plate) that looks like rust is coming out from the back side (probably should be fixed then rechromed), see picture. My mechanic tells me that the floor pans have been patched and the frame has been rust repaired, and he said ‘its not that pretty of a repair job’ and was evidently done some years back(two owners ago)...he suggested it should be partially redone/corrected but I have no inclination in doing that , no time, no space, nor knowledge how to do this. Previous owner says his two mechanics told him the car was safe to drive. The car cruises well at 80-85 on highway and drives nicely around town I was also told by the previous owner that his mechanic said that the idler arm is worn ...he included a new one with my purchase, it is still in the box as when I received the car from him. During previous owners ownership and mine , car has always been garaged.(no knowledge on before) I have put about 300 miles on the car since I bought it. ...During that time I had a pinhole repaired in the top of the radiator. I do have a printout from when previous owner bought the car off EBay Aug 18, 2008...where you can see what he paid for it, before he had brakes redone, and where the previous owner describes the car and what he had done to it. If you have any questions or want to request any additional pictures, please let me know and I will get back to as soon as I can. Interested bidders can make an appointment with me to come and see the car before the Auction comes to an end.
