Vehicle Detail
I think I'm the 2nd owner. I bought it back in 2005 or 2006. I can't remember the mileage when I bought it but it probably has that in the vehicle history report. I've had various mechanics work on this over the years, all were diesel experts:I think Flemington VW did the timing belt back in the day, replaced an oil pump and glow plugs under warranty/recall, replaced my oil pan after I wrecked it by driving up onto a curb(dumbass).Mike Hevner (Hevster1 on TDI forum) replaced Turbo(Oct 2010)/MAF/02 sensor/probably other stuff over the years. You can find him at http://www.mmautocycle.comDan's Auto Repair - Branchburg, NJ - Dan did a bunch of stuff including intercooler/02 sensor/stuts and I'm sure other stuff as well. Feel free to contact him as he can give you the info.Cregars Garage - High Bridge, NJ - Oct 2010 - front struts/bearings/ball joints/sway bar links and such/serpentine beltI did most of the regular maintenace, regular oil changes at 10k intervals, fuel filters at 20k intervals, and brakes. I bought the filter change kits and oil from IDParts. I always bought the proper VW recommended oil spec 506.01. I had a new windshield installed in July 2010. I installed four new tires in December 2012 from Costco - Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS PP Performance H/V I installed a metal plate a long time ago to protect the underside of the engine and oil pan. I did this after I drove up onto a curb and it tore the drain plug off. They sit really low. I was close to the dealer so I had them replace the oil pan. I JUST installed a new battery for the tune of $175! Mind you ...it is massive. Engine and Trans are completely stock...no mods to ECU. This has been my daily driver till now. Everything works as it should. AC blows cold, heat is hot, sunroof works perfectly, Monsoon stereo works though I think a front speaker may be bad. I have a SiriusXM radio hard wired to the sound system. I JUST bought a new XM radio and the power plug is different from the one hard wired so you have to use the plug adapter. It's easy enough to clip the ends of the old power and splice with the new end if you want it to look clean. This avoids having to use the FM transmitter or cassette adapter crap. It works great, I had that and a radar detector installed professionally. They both go with the car but you obviously have to get a subscription for the XM. I will also include a Motorola Bluetooth FM transmitter/Speaker for handsfree operation of your cell phone. The interior is perfect, no rips or tears. Though I have to say, after sitting in my new Passat TDI, the drivers seat in the Golf seems pretty saggy/soft. If I end up not selling it I'll definitely be replacing it. I have OEM Monster Mats installed and also have the cloth mats. Mileage is great as you must know if you are looking at this car...why else would you buy a car with 183k if it wasn't a tank that gets awesome mileage right :-) Again, since driving my new Passat, I can feel the front end in the Golf is a little "squirrely". I'm guessing it needs new sway bar bushings again. For the longest time, when you hit 20k RPM, it sometimes "coughs" or hesitates. Dan, referenced above, had my whole engine apart and can't find anything wrong. The CAM shaft is perfect, the turbo is working as it should, it is just a mystery. It doesn't do it all the time either. I drive the car hard, and it performs great to this day. By hard I mean, not slow :-) It DOES have the original clutch so I must be driving OK right! Please ask all questions up front. Feel free to call Dan as he knows I'm selling it and agreed to give the skinny on it to anyone interested. He has done most of the more recent work on it. If you want to test drive it contact me for an agreeable time. The sale will be AS-IS as I can't really guarantee a car with 183k on it. I prefer pickup but if you need it shipped feel free to make those arrangements. Thanks for looking...please bid tons of money...it's worth it :-) --Joe I AM AN HONEST SELLER WHO DOES NOT SELL JUNNK. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY FEEDBACK. I AM A LONG TIME EBAYER WITH 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. On Nov-23-13 at 07:12:19 PST, seller added the following information: After someone asked for pictures of the fron seats, I DID find a dime size rip in the driver seat side bolster. I posted four more pictures.
