Vehicle Detail
For all practical purposes, I am the 2nd owner of this prime example of an early Z-car. This was a Texas car for 25 years, w/same owner until I bought it in 2008. I bought it right here on Ebay, flew to Dallas, and drove it home to Florida. One of the most fun drives of my life! The previous owner did the restoration, and didn't just let it sit in a garage. It was taken to shows, driven and enjoyed. Taken from the previous owner's description: This unique Texas Z-car is not a project car. It has all the goodies you expect in a "modern" 240Z: 5 speed, R200 rear end, 4 piston calipers, lowering springs and air conditioning. This is a daily driver, not a race car, but it can be enjoyed on the track. The car can be driven across the country today. It has won multiple car show awards and was chosen by Yutaka Katayama as winner of Mr. K's Choice Award at the 2000 National Z Car Convention. The driver's visor is signed by Mr. K. Since purchasing the car 5-6 years ago, I've added a Momo steering wheel, subtle/tasteful sound system, 1" ST front sway bar, MS rear interior tension bar, brand new Exedy High Performance clutch, new tires, gear reduction starter, and I'm sure other smaller things I'm forgetting. Both the previous owner and I have striven to enhance performance and drivability, while maintaining the stock essence of this classic car. Read the specs, come see the car, ask questions or ask for pictures. I will make the car available for inspection by a mechanic of your choice, but must be done in Gainesville, FL.My mechanic is Don Ahrens, of Ahren's Auto/Ahren's Z-Car in Gainesville. Also spent $2K with RTR Motorsport in Winston-Salem, NC last year, to neaten up engine compartment, make a few cosmetic improvements, have the SU master, Allen Giles, fine tune the carbs, and have the linkage re-engineered to operate like a modern vehicle. This change makes a HUGE difference in accelerator operation/smooth driveability. (Mark Ulrich & Roddy do some amazing work on the early Zs and 510s.) Both Don Ahrens and Mark Ulrich will be happy to speak with potential buyers about the car. Why am I selling it? For one reason, and one reason only: I herniated a disc in lower back, have been out of work for 12 months, have son in college and need to raise funds. Otherwise, this car would have been in the family forever. Motor is as strong as the day I bought it. It has an exhaust note that's to die for. Experienced 240 owners describe it as "refined". My brother & I have owned at least six 240s, and this is the first that's a pleasure to drive on long distance trips. Weakest links/negatives: Very few. While paint is still beautiful, there is an area on the left front fender, just above wheel, where some spider cracking has recently appeared. (See pic) Finally, while RTR was neatening up wiring under hood, power to stereo, pwr antenna & A/C was lost. This will likely be corrected prior to sale. If not, seller agrees to pay to have corrected.....easy fix. Everything works perfectly but the clock. Note: Previous owner/restorer added 280ZX kick panel lights that activate upon opening doors. Nice touch! He also had a friend who worked or had access to some sort of metal coating process, hence all nuts, bolts, hinges, etc. appear bronzed or copper coated. (Can't remember exactly what he said, but you get the gist of it.) Dash is 100% original and perfect in every way! New window channel felt in both windows. I'm sure there are many things I've forgotten to mention here.....positive things. Please email for additional pics, info, questions, references, etc. I will do everything in my power to accurately represent this car. But please ASK about concerns! I've owned a '69-72 Datsun 510 and/or 240Z since I was 16 years old, in 1977. Being intimately familiar with these cars, I can state with confidence that this is one of the nicest all around 240s you will find.
