Vehicle Detail
A chopped 1947 Dodge club coupe. This car was expertly chopped to create a very unique, almost Gotham City, lead sled cruiser. I have never seen another car like it. It runs and drives fine. It has a Chevy 350 with a painless wiring harness that turns over every time and runs good. ( I did nothing to the engine). It has a 5-speed Borg Warner transmission that is a 2 finger shifter, extremely easy light shifting. Sorry I don't know which transmission is in it put its likely from a Mustang as several other parts that were put in the car are from a late 60's Mustang. The body is a solid steel body car with surface rust in the undercarriage like all old cars but no body cancer or rot in the quarters that I could find. Very solid car. The car was pretty well messed up when I picked it up. So I have had a lot of work done to it to get into decent shape. This is project car so there are still some smaller things that need to be done to finish it. Car has just gotten a totally custom Dana 60 rear differential with strange axles and 4:10 gears. Car is now an all disc brake car with a Durango front end and Wilwood brakes in the rear. Updated leafs in the rear, this work was almost $7,000 alone for axle and brakes. New trunk floor installed with a slightly widened spare tire well to accommodate a modern tire in the trunk. New gas tank and sender as the tank the car had when I got it was trunk mounted and leaked. Tank is now back under the car in its stock location. The exhaust it came with had to be removed to replace the tank. Previously it was routed out of the rear valance, so a new rear valance is needed or you can fill the exhaust ports or put in pipes that go back to the valance. Personally I was going to do side Lake pipes for this car. Gas filler pipe and cap are in the stick location and is set up to be chopped and flushed with the fender pretty easily, this was just the initial set up. Car had zero interior when I bought it, so the interior is entirely new. Seats are covered in a high leather grain vinyl with carbon fiber texture bolsters and a bold red piping. door panels were done in matching pattern and colors. New wind-lace on the doors, these cars didn't have rubber weatherstripping. Took quite a bit of work to do the headliner due to the chop and rear angles in the rear window. The inside window trims come with the car and several were cut through when the chop was done but they can be spot welded and reinstalled. The stock gauges were never converted to 12 volt so they don't work but are in excellent condition and should be easily made to work upon conversion. There are several under dash gauges installed that do work and the tachometer also works, it is mounted by the glove box where a clock is normally mounted. Dash chrome is very rockabilly in age and patina and can be left as-is or rechromed. Window regulators are stuck and need to be dipped or oiled to work. Several cracks are present in the side glass only and my estimates here from glass shops for replacements is about $300. Front grill is Buick and the panel surround for it was screwed in but never welded or made flush. Ideally that should be smoothed in but that is a personal preference whether to do it or not. Headlights have the LED turn signals which work fine. Steering column is an IDIDIT tilt column I believe. Bear claw latches on the hood worked fine and the hood doors worked fine. They were run into the underside of the dash with some pretty weak twine. A mechanic managed to pull the twine off unfortunately he didn't have the hood open at the time. So those will need to be opened from under the car or cut through. Paint is pretty standard semi-flat texture black. It's not a show paint and the flames are not so much my thing but that's personal taste. Car looks decent enough and the paint is not in poor condition. Four brand new tires are on the car and literally have maybe 10 miles on them. The rims are vintage 40 year old dished mags that were resurfaced and cleaned. They are not cheap modern rims and are solid steel in 5x5 pattern. The hubs are dual pattern with 5x5 and 5x4.5 bolt pattern. The rims and tires were a $2,000 package to upgrade the car and its stance and ride height. The car doesn't have AC or heat but there is plenty of room to add these if desired. Inside the car and trunk are extremely roomy with plenty of space for a comfortable drive. The engine bay originally accommodate an in-line 6 and the current Chevy 350 looks very small sitting down in there so the car is very changeable to the new owners preferences. The remaining work is cosmetic in nature and there are no pressing mechanical issues that need to be addressed. I have acquired two cars recently that I'm restoring that need tons of work so I am selling this car off in its much improved state so I can rehabilitate the two new kids. This car is pretty cool and sinister and it gets a ton of looks when I have had it out driving. It's not a car you'll seen anywhere and if finished up well, can fetch double or triple your money. These Lead Sled cars are in some demand when they have the right look. Dodge sleds are extremely rare and they stand out in a crowd of the usual Chevy fleet masters and Mercs. This car is gangster compared to most if the Sleds I've seen. I'd love to see this car go to someone who will finish it up right and
