Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This 1973 Karmann Ghia has been lovingly restored to its present state. Ghia's are becoming rarer by the day and prices have been increasing dramatically. They are literally a piece of automotive history. The car has a new 1600cc engine and brand new tires. There really are no "New" VW engines anymore. This one was completely rebuilt with new pistons and bearings. While the odometer reads 20,000 + miles the reality is it has less than 2,000 on the engine. A rebuilt engine for a VW installed is typically running 1,600 to 1,700 dollars. The transmission is in good shape with a new clutch disc. The pans were partially replaced and are rust free (see photographs). The replacement was not a full body, the current pans were cut in and welded into place. It sports Mangel chrome rims and disc brakes with brand new discs and calipers. The dash was completely removed and replaced with a wood grain facia. Switches were all replaced and the car was completely rewired in the engine compartment. The existing wiring harness is in place. A VDO Tachometer and temperature gauge were added along with a wiper fluid switch. Additionally there is a Retro Sound radio with remote worth 300 dollars alone. Fog lights have been installed and together with the radio run on a secondary fused electrical connection straight to the battery. The interior is completely new with seat covers, panels, carpet and a head liner. The car has been treated for residual rust and has brand new shocks. The fuel hoses were all replaced and the car is “fume” free. The title is clean and in the owner’s name. The Vehicle was painted about a year ago. The paint is not perfect. There are a few chips and a couple bubbles. Some body work was done as part of the restoration but I did not view the car in it’s pre-restored condition. The bumpers are in good shape. Anyone who knows Ghias knows how hard it is to find a decent bumper. The car will eventually need new rubber seals. There is a tiny bit of rust on the edge of the engine compartment but nothing serious. Hagerty’s Classic Auto pricing lists the following two categories. This car would be represented as a very high four or a low three. Accurate sales prices for a 1973 Ghia in this condition can be viewed in one of the photographs. #3 cars could possess some, but not all of the issues of a #4 car, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior. #3 cars drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These cars are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 car. #4 cars are daily drivers, with flaws visible to the naked eye. The chrome might have pitting or scratches, the windshield might be chipped. Paintwork is imperfect, and perhaps the fender has a minor dent. The interior could have split seams or a cracked dash. No major parts are missing, but the wheels could differ from the originals, or the interior might not be stock. A #4 car can also be a deteriorated restoration. "Fair" is the one word that describes a #4 car.The only reason this car is on the market is because I simply have too many vehicles. I am committed to representing this car as it is. I can assure you I am not profiting from this sale. Way more has gone into the car than will be paid for. I simply want to see it go to a good home and a buyer that will continue to restore it and bring it back to all its glory. I will consider international purchases however prior to release to a shipping agent the payment would need to be made in full and cleared. The vehicle is being sold as is and the buyer is responsible for driving it away with a smile on his or her face.
