Vehicle Detail

I'm selling my 1994 Impala SS. Black with grey leather. 1994 was the first year of production and had the least number of units produced of the 3 years GM marketed this car. This was the only color combination in '94. I purchased my Impala with just under 30K miles in '03 from the original owner. Initially, I was going to keep it as a collector car because of the low mileage; however, it turned out the car was so comfortable, powerful and beautiful, I ended up with it as my daily driver and took it on many long road trips. First, the condition: Interior: As stated, this Impala has 130K miles and in some ways the interior shows it, in some ways not. The front leather seats are a bit worn. If you look closely at the picture of the driver's seat taken from across the passenger seat you'll notice the small amount of wear-through on the lower door-side bolster. Likewise, if you look closely at the passenger seat bottom, you will notice a bit of wear-through there, too. The rear seat is ok. If I were to keep the car, I was looking into replacing the covers in front. Custom fit front bucket seat covers on Ebay run from about $500 for nice generic leather up to about $1,000 for original equipment replacements with the stitched logos, etc. The carpets are also quite worn and a kit on Ebay runs about $150. I've put off doing it because I wasn't sure if I have the expertise to do the installation. There are videos on YouTube and it really doesn't look too difficult but it just wasn't a project that I wanted to start because I use the car every day. No cracks whatsoever in the dashboard and all electronics on the panel work fine. Air conditioning is cold. The power antennea won't go down so I just pulled the fuse and left it in the up position. The radio and all speakers work fine. All power window motors operate as they should but the left rear window comes off the track and from looking on line it seems that just about every Impala and Caprice made in this body style had the same problem. I had it fixed once (very inexpensive) and it worked for a year or so and quit again. Exterior: The car has been stored winters, from around mid-November to mid-April, and the body has no rust whatsoever. The paint is a little bit faded (the sun does actually come out occasionally here in Western New York) but it shines up ok. There are a few dings and a few scratches which would be expected of a car I drive daily. The wheels have some curb rash and a little lacquer discoloring but still clean up nice. The glass is excellent all around and has the VIN etching which get's you a little discount on your insurance. The car will definitely need tires soon and they are not the original size anyway. The last time I replaced the tires, I let my mechanic talk me into 235/55's to save a few bucks. They did wear better than the 255/50's but I never liked the look. Mechanical: As I'm sure you know the Impala SS has the 5.7 liter LT1 'Vette engine and it runs great. It recently had a small oil leak and I had it traced to the oil line gaskets. I had those replaced along with the pan gasket and there are no leaks at all now. The brakes are good. I put slotted rotors on a few years ago and they're in nice shape. I had the rear pads replaced at inspection time last year and the fronts were good at that time. The front pads might need replacement but I doubt it because the brakes work fine and I hear no noise, scraping or squealing at all. The exhaust system is good. Actually, it's a little too quiet for the type of car but I didn't want to mess around with a Flowmaster or something like it if it didn't need to be done. The cruise control is touchy. Within the last year or two I've replaced the battery, alternator and starter. The starter and battery were just a few months ago. One thing nice about an Impala SS like this is that, even though it's pretty rare to see one around, getting parts couldn't be easier as this car was built off the Caprice frame that GM marketed for about 6-8 years. As stated, this Impala SS had only one previous owner when I bought it. It's always been adult driven and serviced regularly. Never been smoked in. I am very realistic as to what to expect in selling my car. It is not a show car and I'm not expecting a show car price. I've included a lot of photos and I didn't just take a bunch of photos from angles where you can't see the driver's seat (which is common on Ebay) or the paint dings. I've tried to be very honest about the condition of the car. A couple of final things: > The Car Check report shows 1 accident reported in December 2012. A car struck the vehicle behind me, pushing the vehicle behind me into my rear bumper. It was literally a tap. There was no damage whatsoever, but I had to wait around for the police to show up. The lady's insurance company, Allstate, contacted me and I advised there was no damage and they closed the claim. I never even reported it to my insurance company. If you look really closely at the rubber strip on the bumper, there's a little scuff there but I'm not even sure it's from that tap. I'd have included a photo but the scuff is so small (the size of a dime) that it doesn't show up in any of the pics I took > The trunk picture does not show the spare tire. The original spare tire is included and is like new. I only had it on the car once for about 5 or so miles. I don't bother keeping it in the trunk because, since I've had just 1 flat tire in 10 years, and I carry 3 family sets of golf clubs, there's no point in it taking up space. Again, the original, full sized spare is included. > There is an air-adjustable rear suspension and it works fine. I kind of forget that it's there so I don't change it much. It's located behind the rear license plate. I included a picture. I'm not sure if the car came from the factory with this option or if it was added later; it was on the car when I bought it. > The cat resting under the car in a few of the pictures is not included in the sale. :) > I drive the car pretty much every day so the miles will go up a bit from now until the time the auction ends. > Per Ebay requirement: Obviously, as it is a used car, there is no guarantee or warranty implied or intended. Seriously, there are two main points about my car. It's a car you can jump right in and drive anywhere (tire situation considered) as I do every day in the summer. It's also a pretty rare car that, when it's washed and shined, still turns heads everywhere I go. Thanks for your interest in my car. *** I've had a couple questions about the tires so I rotated and inspected all 4 tires. The tires are decent enough and have sufficient tread for a short highway trip. I use the car every day and I probably drive 300-400 miles each week or so without even thinking about it. I also looked at the brakes while I had the wheels off and, as I said in the description, the rears were done last year and are fine. The concern I had about the fronts turned out to be no big deal as the front pads are fine as well. On Jul-14-13 at 12:22:32 PDT, seller added the following information: *** PLEASE NOTE: I've had several inquiries from folks wanting a buy it now price. I've been offered everything from $2,700 to $3,500. As I've explained to those folks, the reason I set the start price at $3,750 is that it's the bottom price I'd take to sell the car. I'm retired and don't need the money or space. If it doesn't sell at $3,750, I'll just keep the car, get the new tires put on, probably do the carpets and drive it for another 3 or 4 years. I drive the car every day and I have always loved it and I always get comments on it. If you want to buy the car at $3,750, feel free to put in a bid. I've been looking at cars on Ebay and its astonishing the prices being asked for cars with over 100K miles. Just regular cars I've routinely seen for anywhere between $5,000-$10,000. I really feel that my starting price is a fair one for the condition of the car.
