I purchased this machine from a dealer in Iowa with the original motor seized. The dealer was given to believe it was from sitting over the winter. Unable to convince myself as to certain limitations accompanying becoming a senior., I bought it with the thought of rebuilding and blasting around the hills here at our cabin., having flat-tracked and scrambled in my less affected youth (ahem!). I found the machine in good condition save the parts needing repair., and found the seizure due to a pinched off lower radiator tube. Further inspection showed the cylinder scored heavily, piston junk, but the rest of the unit refreshable with the addition of case and crankshaft bearings a new cylinder, piston and time and proper pullers. The new piston with ring and pin assembly came with the machine. I opted instead to purchase an existing low hour motor from a very reputable person on eBay who makes his living buying good running and or racing machines and dismantling them for his massive inventory of just such items....The motor is in excellent condition and starts and runs quite well. They do not come cheap in this shape, but this was to be my play-toy for years to come and I'd even have a spare motor as I got the time to do it the way I'd want. I have since come to an understanding with myself and bought a nice, somewhat sedate dual sport which I can ride more on Both Wheels!!! and not have my goggles slap my posterior with each shift!....It( The Cr 250 in my listing here) has a fresh chain, numerous parts and pieces, a new piston in the box and the original motor. If the motor were sold as a re-build-able after buying this machine you could probably pay for any shipping and more or buy a good used cylinder, crank and case bearings a set of universal pullers from Harbor Freight and go for it. the power valve in the original motor was functional and not froze up and I suspect the gearbox and clutch to be sound as well. The head bearings in the frame neck I feel, can be taken up., to suit me (I would probably replace them) though they still fall within normal limits. So that's it., this Ol'Mans loss to aging is gonna provide some one with more than memories, a very good bike take care of it!
