Vehicle Detail
I purchased this almost 9 years ago and it's time to let the dream go on to a new owner. I don't have the time, money, or energy to continue it. To many projects. It was going to be a resto-mod with an early hemi and modern suspension but, oh well...got to let it go. The good....IT'S A 1950 DESOTO CUSTOM WOODY!! Probably one of a handfull left of the original 600 that were ever built. The engine ran for about a minute and sounded good but has a crack in the water jacket right below the head between the freeze plugs on the drivers side (thought that's why they have freeze plugs??) I have spent a lot of money getting better trim, seats, another car for parts but there is still a lot of labor to go. This is a project for someone that knows wood. Not a project for the weak. Most is there for patterns. The bad...The left rear door is missing the latch assembly and the slider window latch. The main hinge beam is there with the hardware but the dog leg(curved piece by rear fender) and the upper wood above and at rear of window is missing. The right rear door is pretty much complete so you could reverse engineer the wood for the left. The right tailgate hinge is missing. Missing one narrow interior rear door panel stainless trim piece. Missing left rear window garnish that holds in the rear window. Missing the right side rear fender stainless rock shield. The right rear corner is also rotted but the left is also enough there to duplicate the right. The front doors are very complete with all mechanisms but they need to be redone. It appears that the paint was stripped with paint remover and left to sit so there is a lot of surface rust but no rust through. The sheet metal is very nice with no major dents. The left lower rocker appears to have been damaged at some point. The floors show spotty rust through but not too serious. The spare tire well also has no rust through but heavy surface rust. The tail gate is perfect and the rear window rolls up and down. The panel below the tail gate is pushed in but an easy fix. The front seat frame came from a 1950 4 door. I have the seat springs for the bottom but not the top. The rear seat top fold down came from a 52 wagon and the brackets don't line up with the original holes in the floor. I don't believe the wood back is shaped correctly but could easily be made. The bottom also came from the 52 but bolts in and folds correctly. Bumpers are in nice original condition. I also have a complete 1950 front clip with nice chrome and grill that goes with the car. Only one (1) good hood. Have the original but its bent and it can go with the car or not. This is the perfect car for someone tired of seeing the normal Woodys at the shows. I guarantee you will have the only Desoto Woody at your local show (unless you know some one with one. I only know of about roughly 12) In my 30 years of car shows in California I haven't seen another one. This is being sold with Bill of Sale, but if a title makes that much of a difference to you I will get it. It's been off the road since '78. Transportation and pick up responsibility of buyer. I will assist in loading and will make sure the tires all hold air. IF YOU NEED MORE PICTURES OR HAVE QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK!! I have tried to be extremely forthcoming with my description and don't want any dis-satisfied customers. This is a very, very rare car and the reserve is not out of sight but the bidding will tell. I have seen much worse sell for more. I reserve the right to cancel the auction as it is advertised locally. UNDER 10 FEEDBACK I WILL CANCEL YOUR BID UNLESS YOU CONTACT ME!! NO EXCEPTIONS On Jul-03-13 at 20:08:17 PDT, seller added the following information: It is the lower garnish moulding, the long flat one that is missing. The upper curved moulding piece is there.
