Vehicle Detail
Freshly built Triumph 650 bobber. This is a recently completed bobber project. It is a 1970 frame with a bolt-on hard tail with what is likely a 68 or 69 engine*. Built it up from crates. Rebuilt motor with:New gaskets and sealsNew pistons and ringsNew small end bushingNew big end bushingsNew plugs, caps and wiresCylinders honed by The Bonneville Shop here in DenverJugs cleaned and re-paintedNew motor mounting hardware - from the Bonneville Shop - not hardware store fastenersEverything checked and measured to ensure it was in specOther new partsHeadlamp/horn switchExhaust headers and brackets (I have "shorty" mufflers in very nice shape and new after-market clamps included with the sale, but not installed)Ignition switchSteering lockSeatTop tank badge (I chose a slimline tank from an oil in frame model for it's profile. The cap is decorative)Front SprocketChainLithium Ion batterySparx regulator rectifier capacitorNorton screw type oil filter (for super fast filter changes and all the benefits that a modern filter provides). It is the same filter size as a number of Ducati models so easy to find.Oil lines and nipplesFuel lines (except for the clear cross tube between the two floats as it is in good shape and is a good visual indicator to see if fuel is flowing)PetcocksCustom TIG welded oil tank from Anything74Tail lightFoot peg rubbersgear change rubberBillet aluminum points cover engraved "Triumph" Lots of other bits like screws, bolts, etcThe idea I had putting this together was to keep a little of the vintage in the bike, and keep it feeling British. I fabricated many parts for this machine and tried to think about use and maintenance throughout. Built to be a rider. The bike has been completely re-wired from scratch, with all the electrics mounted under the tank. The rear brake rod was fabricated from scratch and now has a pivot ball joint instead of a bit of 1/4" tubing bend into a hook, so better actuation and brake feel. The hole on the lever side was whallowed so that was widened slightly and fitted with a brass bushing so the axel pin is a snug fit. The tank sits on rubber grommets to minimize vibration. The seat is also rubber mounted in front, and over course, spring mounted in back. The rear fender is actually from a 1966 Suzuki T20 and has been trimmed and modified to fit. Custom fabricated brace/stay that is adjustable depending on wheel position/tire choice/whatever. Fresh paint all round. Paint is not perfect, but have been told I'm critical. There are some very small chips in the frame that happened during assembly. The tank also has a shallow dent on the left side which you should see in the pics. The bike is also over 40 year old and has some scars. There is a very small bit of cooling fin missing on the head. The tires are in good shape but not new. The bike may need additional items to be road legal in your state, please examine photographs carefully. The bike currently has just a rear brake switch. I have the cable/switch for the front, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet. I also very carefully shaved off a very small amount from the inner edge of the headlight bezel so a regular car head light fits - $11 at an auto parts store rather than some multiple of that from a motorcycle specific shop. The bike has, as you can see in the pics, quite a presence and gets a lot of attention. It's a bobber, but a almost a chopper rake on the forks. Looks pretty cool. Just about everything on this machine has been disassembled, cleaned, rebuilt, or replaced. Not perfect, but has had a lot of love given to her and looks great. I was also very careful to minimize any work on the front frame hoop. Aside from a new cross bar for the tank (the old had been hacked up), all mods were made to the bolt-on hard tail. This was done so that the bike could be "de-bobbered" with very little work and a sub frame, swing arm and rear shocks re-installed if a future owner so chooses. The bike starts, runs and goes. All of the electrics work. It's titled and insured and ready for a new home. Selling to finance other projects. Will likely add some some more photos and a vid of the bike starting in the next day or so. *The engine does not have a factory serial number, instead it has a state-assigned number, leading me to believe that it someone may have bought the cases from a dealer at some other point and had the State assign it a number. Ran that number (and the frame number with the State Patrol and the National Insurance Board and both came up clean). **Milage - unknown.
