Vehicle Detail
6/26/13 CLARIFY--- Ordered a new aluminum radiator 3 row/core. Temp likes to climb up at stop lights, happens on 90 degree days......comes down OK once get moving. Has original radiator and flow not so good I'm sure. Especially with juiced up motor. Radiator be in in few days and will be installed soon as arrives for summertime hot weather cruising. 6/21/13 Due to LOTS of questions I have added a new walk around video herehttp://youtu.be/VQCfj_WoZK8 You are looking at a turn key Rambler American, car is a restore mod. I have a project I am working on for my business. Working capital is hard to come by in this economy. So I am offering this Rambler to you. Look over the ad, as I have covered everything I could think you would want to know. Thanks for looking! About the car 1967 American Motors “Rambler American 440” Restore Mod Original V8 car 2-dr hardtop 290 V8 3-speed Auto Borg Warner type M40 Low rear gears 373/410 or so Improvements $$ Engine Engine professionally rebuilt by Rose High Performance Engine Service in Dover, Delaware Less than 500 miles on rebuilt engine Hooker Headers 3” Dual exhaust with Dual Flow Masters, chrome dual tipsUpgraded Cam Aluminum Edelbrock valve covers Edelbrock Air Gap intake Edelbrock 750 CFM carb with fresh rebuild Edelbrock aluminum air cleaner Bulltear custom serpentine belt drive kit with aluminum pulleys MSD distributor, MSD blaster coil, MSD ignition, MSD tach adapter Accell spark plugs, Accell spark plug wires Mr Gasket electric fuel pump Utra torque starter Powermaster chrome alternator New starter solenoid Chrome power steering pump top Other improvements Replaced gauges/pods with custom gauges (no repro gauges available old ones were bad) Full gauges- oil pressure, vacuum, volts, engine cooling temp, fuel level Sun II Tach New glove box cardboard insert New ignition switch New brake light switch Replaced trunk and door locks High volume electric cooling fan and relay with manual switch Custom fan shroud Chrome throttle spring retainer Chrome spark plug wire looms Replaced throttle linkage shaft bushings New column shift shifter knob AMC Magnum 500 wheels with beauty rings, chrome lugs and center caps 14” Hoosier raised white letter radial tires Dropped and cleaned gas tank Replaced gas tank sending unit assembly and metal line from gas tank to elect fuel pump Replaced trunk weather-stripping Replaced radiator hoses Braided transmission lines Transmission cooler Body Car has fresh paint one stage urethane MAACO and looks great, get lots of compliments Car is soon to be 47 years old, and keep in mind about the car! Did not repaint top. Will need to install a patch panel in driver’s side floorboard soon. New ones $52 online, just didn’t get to that yet. Some slight rust pitting around the top of car and can always be stripped and cleaned. Just bringing to your attention. I chose to have MAACO color match and paint whole car. They did not repaint inside door jams… they are same color as car. I painted inside hood/engine bay black, I know that AMC should have engine bay same color as body, but cut some costs and just painted it black. Trunk underside will need some detail if want show car winner, but for cruising is fine. As mentioned….. will need some body work, if you require a concourse show car winner. However if you want a cool cruiser that looks good and still gets compliments and starts conversations car is perfect for that as it is now! Chassis Brakes are ok, but are drum brakes. Comes with extra brake drums. Some front suspension parts have been replaced. Car rides and handles good. Interior Interior all there as seen in pictures. Seats are not torn and door panels all there. I have a black padded dash comes with the car, I never installed since I like the look of the metal dash. Previous owner (one of them) hacked dash out little bit for custom radio. AM radio in now and not too noticeable. Carpet is okay needs a good cleaning or replace if want top end show car. Headliner okay. I concentrated on body and drive train. Car does not have seat belts, car built back when they were optional. Glass Glass all ok on car and only problem is pass side rear quater window needs some regulator work. Again car is almost 47 years old so some things can be expected. Front windshield has some ghosting toward bottom. Does not affect driving, but it there. It is below wipers and just bringing to your attention. Most people won’t notice it. Electric system Everything there, previous owner cut radio wires off AM radio. I like to hear the car engine and never worried about the radio. Speaker and radio is there, you’ll need to splice into wires that previous owner cut off coming out of radio. Horn doesn’t work. Horns and horn ring wiring there. Never worked on that. Lights, wipers, etc all work. I modified gauge cluster to accommodate custom gauges. I did not relocate turn signal bulbs yet, but is easy just wire 2 led bulbs in, and have turn signal indicators. Also need to relocate a high beam indicator bulb. Again easy work, just have not got to that part yet. Or, if you do not like the customized gauge cluster…put an original one back in. Wiring and plug is still there if want to put back original, there are AMC sources to get a used one. Driveablilty Car runs strong and has plenty of power. Carries 50-60 PSI oil pressure at highway speeds. Running synthetic Mobil 1 oil. Added Zinc additive for flat tappet protection with recent oil change. From improvements car should be making very close to 300 HP. You can get in the car, turn the key….enjoy the rumble…. and cruise to the local car shows or cruise in. Or just go out for ice cream and get some attention. I always get someone at a stop light complimenting the car. Car will need a transmission upgrade if want to enjoy all the power. Tranny is old and tired. It does upshift and downshift okay, takes off ok and cruises okay. It just does not like sudden full power takeoffs. Rebuild kits are available and many transmission upgrades available as well as standard transmission changeover parts available. It’s very popular to change over AMC’s with a T5 which is what I had intended to do if kept the car. The low rear end gears make it a good candidate for a 5 speed. If sale falls through… then will change over to T5. There are lots of online sources to show how to do the changeover. Other mentions Car includes 1967 AMC service manual which covers everything you need to know when working on the car. Heater core is not hooked up so do not know condition. I got car ….and restoring for car shows and don’t drive in winter. Cannot say about heater core condition. I have a list of AMC vendors for parts and receipts for a lot of the items, I didn’t save everything but most. I installed a new Fuel level gauge (old one toast) but somehow ordered wrong ohms. So full is empty, and empty is full. By the time I installed is too late too return, so left it that way. Just when gauge gets ¾ tank start looking for fuel! Has worked out fine…once you get used to fact that gauge reads backwards. Car has won a few awards at some car shows as these Ramblers are getting scarce. Yea there are some out there but not too many 2 dr hard top models that look and run good. I have videos of the car running and driving. I do not normally drive the car hard. It stays in garage all week and driven to car shows and cruise ins. I did make a couple small burnout videos from coaching from one of my friends. So you can see what it can do. New walk around video herehttp://youtu.be/VQCfj_WoZK8 Search YouTube for Michael Parrill or copy and paste this link https://www.youtube.com/user/michaelparrill?feature=watch Look over the videos. Last few are current. Some from back in Feb when was working on the car restoring it. As mentioned get the car and cruise now. Needs few more things but you can enjoy it now! Hagerty Insurance recognizes the car as a classic and you will have no trouble getting an agreed upon value policy at low cost to cover the car. I use them now. I also have a number for a great independent shipper on east coast you can use to get the car delivered at a decent rate.
